Roundup of Exciting Rhythm and Tempo Games (1–10)
A Daruma’s Day

I think most of you know the game “Daruma-san ga Koronda,” but have you heard of “A Day in the Life of Daruma”? The basic way to play is the same as Daruma-san ga Koronda, but instead of freezing when “Daruma-san ga koronda” is called, you approach the tagger while following the instruction in “Daruma-san ga ○○.” In other words, if it’s “Daruma-san ga jump,” you have to jump! There’s no need to stop moving, so just keep obeying the instructions and get closer to the tagger.
Anyone who fails to follow an instruction is out on the spot!
10-second stopwatch challenge

Press start on a stopwatch and stop it when you think 10 seconds have passed—this is the “10-Second Stopwatch Game.” You can play it on a smartphone, but a physical stopwatch is easier to press, so it’s more comfortable to play.
Naturally, the person closest to 10 seconds wins, but adding original rules like “bust if you go over 10 seconds” can make it even more exciting.
Pyramid Rock-Paper-Scissors

Perfect for class or grade-level activities! Here’s a fun idea for Pyramid Rock-Paper-Scissors.
Rock-Paper-Scissors is a simple, classic game that always gets everyone excited, and with a few tweaks, it becomes even more engaging for kids! After splitting into Defense and Offense teams, the Defense team stands on the lines drawn in a pyramid shape.
The Offense team aims to defeat the King by playing rock-paper-scissors against the Defense team and advancing with each win.
A key rule for the Offense team: if you lose a round, you must return to the starting point!
Rhythm 4 Game

The “Rhythm 4 Game,” which became popular on TV variety shows, is now a go-to party game.
Players proceed by calling each participant by a two-syllable nickname.
At the cue, “To the rhythm starting from ◯◯,” the caller says that person’s nickname plus a number from 1 to 4.
The person called then says their own nickname that many times and passes it on to the next player.
You have to stay on the beat, or you’re out!
Beef Tongue Game

No tools or prep needed! Here’s an idea for the “Gyutan Game.” Gyutan means beef tongue, a popular cut at yakiniku restaurants.
This game uses your hands and voice.
Put your hands together and hold them out in front—ready to start! Say “gyu” out loud, and for each “tan,” one person claps in turn.
The first round rhythm is “gyu-tan gyu-tan gyu-tan-tan.” From the second round on, the number of “tan” at the end increases by one each time.
It’s simple, but it’ll trip you up and get everyone laughing!
The “whoever says 30 loses” game

If you’re looking for a simple game you can play in short spare moments, this one is highly recommended.
The rules are very simple: multiple players take turns counting upward, and whoever says 30 loses.
You can count up to three numbers on your turn.
Work backward from 30 and plan your moves so you won’t be the one to say 30.
Sing-along game

A sing-along game that’s guaranteed to get music lovers hyped.
One participant points at someone else and says the name of an artist.
The person who’s pointed at must sing a line from one of that artist’s songs within five seconds.
If the same artist keeps getting called, it gets progressively harder—and it’s fun to see who knows which songs.
Add rules that limit the genre, or speed up the pointing to boost the pace, and the excitement ramps up even more.
Whether someone loves singing or isn’t confident, everyone can join in and have fun, making it a perfect game for class recreation.
