Stand Out at the School Festival! A Collection of Unusual Ideas You Can Do at School and in the Classroom

We want to make the most of our once-a-year school festival.

When deciding on our class attraction, the classic exhibits and presentations are great, but since it’s a day to remember, we’d love to try a slightly unusual idea that visitors won’t forget.

So here, we’ll introduce unique class-room-based attraction ideas! From handmade attractions to interactive events, we’ve gathered unusual concepts that are a bit different from other classes.

You’re sure to find the perfect idea for your class!

Balloon pool

A display that makes full use of the classroom and lets visitors have fun is a balloon pool.

All you have to do is inflate balloons in various colors and fill the classroom with them, so it takes less time and effort than a large-scale attraction.

If you mix in some jumbo-sized balloons and character balloons among the many, children visiting the school festival will likely be delighted.

If the classroom is too large, you can section off a corner and set it up there.

Adding a game—like hiding treasures inside balloons for people to find—could make it even more fun!

Diorama Exhibition

Diorama Exhibition

A diorama exhibition that realistically recreates towns and buildings.

Dioramas are made from various materials such as Styrofoam, clay, and plastic.

Some are even paper dioramas made entirely out of paper.

Let’s try creating and displaying dioramas of local landmarks—like castles or roadside stations—from the area where your school is located.

Viewers might lose track of time as they admire the precise, meticulously crafted works on display.

You can build a diorama, run trains through it, light up the buildings, or place model cars.

Coming up with the setting and story of the diorama town also sounds fun.

Yukata dressing event

Many people probably want to wear a yukata at the festival.

However, these days, not many people can dress themselves.

In such cases, holding a yukata dressing session would likely make a lot of people happy.

It offers a chance to experience Japanese culture, and participants can enjoy the school festival while wearing the yukata.

Experiencing the festival in your favorite yukata will surely become a special memory.

If you want to make people happy and offer something truly meaningful, consider organizing a yukata dressing session.

Photo spot

Wouldn’t it be exciting to turn the entire classroom into an Instagrammable photo spot? Stylish balloons and decorative tape that can be used for photo spots are easy to find at 100-yen shops and similar stores.

Try creating a chic, sophisticated balloon arch, decorating the walls with dried flowers, dried fruit, and nuts, or setting up a bold, pop-inspired corner—there are lots of ways to style it.

Making small props like photo props would make it even more fun.

I’m interested in fortune-telling, but it takes courage to step into that unique atmosphere, doesn’t it? If there were a fortune-telling room or booth at a school festival, though, it would be easier to enter and might even be popular.

There are many kinds of fortune-telling, but the standard topics are probably things like health, suitable careers, and the timing of marriage.

Since it’s a school festival attraction, it doesn’t have to be accurate.

Focus on making the costumes and your manner of speaking feel authentic! If you want to get serious, try studying tarot or palm reading.

colorful cotton candy

colorful cotton candy

Cotton candy, a staple of festival food stalls.

How about making colorful, Instagrammable cotton candy as a booth idea for your school festival? Because cotton candy is extremely light and easily affected by wind, it’s perfect for indoor venues like classrooms! The quickest way to prepare is to rent the essentials: granulated sugar for cotton candy and a cotton candy machine.

You can also buy pre-colored sugar, so be sure to check it out.

If you want to make cotton candy in multiple colors, the trick is to add colored sugar, leave the top half white, and wrap the colored part from the middle down.

Try different combinations—like clean, eye-catching gradients in white, blue, and purple, or designs inspired by your class colors—and have fun with the variations!

fashion show

A fashion show is sure to be a hit—not only at schools with fashion-related departments, but even at others as well.

You can come up with all sorts of variations, like dresses you’ve designed yourselves or yukata perfect for summer.

It might feel a bit cramped to hold it in a classroom, but with some creativity—letting people see the outfits up close or setting up a space to interact with the models after the show—you can definitely have fun with the audience even in a limited space! Making the costumes together with your teammates will also strengthen your sense of unity.
