Stand Out at the School Festival! A Collection of Unusual Ideas You Can Do at School and in the Classroom

We want to make the most of our once-a-year school festival.

When deciding on our class attraction, the classic exhibits and presentations are great, but since it’s a day to remember, we’d love to try a slightly unusual idea that visitors won’t forget.

So here, we’ll introduce unique class-room-based attraction ideas! From handmade attractions to interactive events, we’ve gathered unusual concepts that are a bit different from other classes.

You’re sure to find the perfect idea for your class!

Film screening

[Cultural Festival Bombing Plan] Complete Edition
Film screening

A simple plan: screen a movie in the classroom and have people watch it.

Choosing what to show can be tricky, but taking the plunge and making your own film is highly recommended.

While the advance preparation can be demanding, once that’s done, all that’s left on the day is to enjoy the audience’s reactions.

You could aim for a feature-length piece, or go with a compilation of short clips—either approach is likely to get people excited.

If you’re in a film-related department or club, why not take on the challenge as a chance to showcase your skills?

Woodworking

People today spend a lot of time in the digital world.

Compared to the past, children play less with wooden toys—in fact, they have fewer chances to touch wood at all.

So how about getting them into woodworking? You can adjust the difficulty by grade level, and I think kids will be excited to use carpentry tools they don’t usually encounter, like saws and hammers.

There are plenty of woodworking projects that don’t use nails, too.

Exhibits of less familiar tools like planes and chisels might also feel fresh and intriguing for children!

toi toi toi!

Here’s an idea for a parody piece, “toi toi toi!”, memorable for its cute animation and song.

Some of you may have had the experience of spending so much time on structuring your video that you can’t see when it will be finished.

For those people, we recommend making a parody.

A parody is a work that humorously or satirically imitates an already completed piece.

In the video, they try their hand at parodying a show that’s broadcast on TV.

Give it a try yourself!

Handmade Workshop

All done with items from the 100-yen shop! ✨ 14 DIY ideas from 100-yen stores: storage, fashion, stationery, and interior decor
Handmade Workshop

How about a class in a genre you don’t usually do in the classroom—one where participants learn about handmade crafts? While explaining the steps, have them create their own pieces so they can experience the fun of handcrafting.

Prepare a variety of colors and decorations, and let everyone pack their individuality into their work; that will make the event even more lively.

It’s also a key point that the memories of the school festival can take shape and be kept.

To make it easy to take home, we recommend choosing small projects like accessories.

Stop-motion exhibitionNEW!

When it comes to Tim Burton’s breakout work, it has to be The Nightmare Before Christmas.

I feel like that was around the time we started hearing the term “dark fantasy,” too.

Shaun the Sheep, which you see a lot these days, is made with clay.

What these two have in common is, yes, stop-motion animation.

If your class has the time and patience, this project is highly recommended! You can create film that looks like animation just by stringing together a sequence of individually shot images.

There are even apps dedicated to this nowadays.

You can also do stop-motion with actual classmates, so you might end up with unexpectedly funny videos.

Because the visuals can be monotonous, the script becomes important—so be sure to come up with an impactful opening scene.

Flash mob impromptu eventNEW!

Flash mob impromptu eventNEW!

Flash mobs and pranks you often saw on TV shows and YouTube projects have become events that ordinary people can apparently use these days, and there are even companies that plan and sell flash mobs.

Flash mobs are a surefire choice as the main entertainment to hype up proposals and parties.

So let’s use a flash mob to involve the whole school and energize the cultural festival! The most important thing about a flash mob is not letting people realize it’s the entry point to a flash mob.

Be mindful of “tension and release,” like turning a real-looking fight into a fun flash mob, or a totally amateurish act into a cool dance.

Rap battle tournamentNEW!

High School Rap Battle <26th Aoni Festival>
Rap battle tournamentNEW!

Among people who like rap, it’s a well-known fact that there are more nationwide rap competitions than you might think.

Most of them are open to both professionals and amateurs alike.

By the way, the winner’s prize for the rap competition “BATTLE SUMMIT 2” is 20 million yen.

If there were a casual, open-to-anyone rap event, a school festival would be a huge hit.

With clear rules like “no insults” and “positive expressions only,” I think it would also be easier to get teachers’ approval.

It’s an intellectual contest, not a shouting match.

Make sure to drop some slick rhymes.
