Ado’s cover of the classic song “unravel.” This work is a cover of a track by TK, the frontman of the popular band Ling tosite sigure, and it gained popularity for its dirty, emotionally charged vocal delivery not found in the original.

Throughout the piece, falsetto appears in many sections.

While a trembling falsetto is generally considered a no-go, given its compatibility with the lyrics here, this is a song where you should prioritize expression and sing the falsetto with a deliberate tremble.

“Wataridori,” which was selected as the theme song for the film Akegarasu, accompanies a comedy set in a host club that portrays 12 hours in the life of a host pressured to repay his debts and his unreliable companions.

The track stands out for its brisk tempo, dynamic sound, and exhilarating lyrics.

Above all, it becomes a truly radiant piece by making full use of vocalist Yohei Kawakami’s wide vocal range, especially the abundant use of high keys.

L’Arc~en~Ciel, with hyde’s vocals that are both smooth and fierce, leaves a strong impression.

Among their songs, the classic “Lies and Truth” boasts exceptional delicacy.

While it lacks sheer power, the falsetto in the chorus is a major challenge, featuring sharp rises and falls in pitch and even low-range falsetto.

That said, because a powerful vocal isn’t required, you could say that once you clear the falsetto sections, there aren’t many difficult points left.

If you’re confident in your head voice control, definitely give it a try.

InfernoMrs. GREEN APPLE

When people hear “artists or bands with a wide vocal range,” many probably think of Mrs.

GREEN APPLE first.

Their song Inferno, released in 2019, features a distinctly stronger rock flavor compared to their more recent tracks.

The most challenging aspect of this piece is undoubtedly the chorus, which repeatedly alternates between chest voice and falsetto.

While advanced techniques like vibrato or vocal runs are hardly required, the pitch control is very demanding, making it a song that significantly narrows who can sing it well.

Saucy Dog is a rock band that enjoys overwhelming support from young people.

Their defining feature, above all, is vocalist Shinya Ishihara’s high-tone voice.

Their famous song “Kiseki wo Mattetatte” is characterized by a dramatic melody themed around heartbreak.

The chorus reaches very high notes, featuring repeated use of mixed voice and falsetto.

In particular, the mixed voice parts appear at the most intense moments, so a certain degree of vocal thickness and power is required.

Ghost of the SeaYonezu Kenshi

Kenshi Yonezu – Spirits of the Sea
Ghost of the SeaYonezu Kenshi

This is a digital-download-only single by Kenshi Yonezu, released in June 2019.

It is also included on Uma to Shika, which was released as his 10th single on September 11.

The song was created as the theme for the theatrical anime Children of the Sea, produced by STUDIO4°C.

Yonezu is well known for his beautiful falsetto, and that gorgeous singing is fully on display here as well.

Even more striking to me personally, though, is the grand chorus, which seems to have been crafted by making full use of digital editing techniques.

Normally, when building such a thick chorus, you would record the same part multiple times, but in this track, that seems to have been kept to a minimum.

Instead, I suspect the chorus parts were generated from one—or perhaps a few—main vocal takes using pitch-editing processes.

By layering Yonezu’s highly expressive, warmly human voice through mechanical processing, the track achieves a wonderfully mysterious world of sound—a truly superb piece of sound design.

365 Nichi was one of the tracks on the original 2010 album SENSE.

Even before the album’s release, it drew attention as the TV commercial song for NTT East and NTT West.

The song conveys feelings for a loved one and the wish for those feelings to reach them.

With Mr.Children’s powerful yet heartrending vocals and sound, the meaning of the lyrics comes through directly.

Because the use of falsetto enhances the sense of poignancy, try to be mindful of hitting those brief high notes in falsetto.
