[For Women] Sing difficult songs at karaoke and steal the spotlight! (41–50)

YOASOBI’s masterpiece “Monotone.” When it comes to YOASOBI, they’re known for lots of high-range parts, with vocal lines that repeatedly switch between chest voice and falsetto—very distinctive, right? This piece, however, differs from that impression; in a word, it feels like a song with an extremely wide vocal range.

The low notes in particular are astonishingly low—most women with an average voice type simply can’t produce them.

The chorus does bring in solid high parts as well, making it a high-difficulty song that really depends on the singer’s vocal quality.

One of my students has practiced “Stellar Stellar” before, but this time, “Mou Dou Natte mo Ii ya” has a completely different vibe and comes across as a cool-style anime song.

Listening through the whole track, it has an overall sense of speed with many rapid phrases, so keeping time is very important.

Since it’s such a fast song and the melody goes up to D5, the key is to avoid straining your voice.

It might be good to sing with a relaxed approach, using a strong, supported head voice!

HEART BEATYOASOBI

This is YOASOBI’s 22nd digital-only single, released in December 2023.

Since their songs are produced by Ayase, who is also a Vocaloid producer, many of the vocal melodies are notoriously difficult for human singers, and this track is no exception—there are plenty of challenging spots, especially in the chorus.

The most important thing for singing this song, above all, is “pre-studying” the track.

Pay close attention to how rests are handled throughout—where to hold notes and where to cut them—and sing accordingly.

Also, aim for a clear tone.

If you try directing your voice to resonate against the upper palate inside your mouth, you can achieve a pleasant, overtone-rich sound similar to vocalist ikura’s.

Give it a try!

The Kouga Ninja ScrollsOnmyoza

This is Onmyo-za’s 10th single, released in April 2005.

It was used as the opening theme for the TV anime Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls.

Set over an uptempo, hard-rock-style backing track, it’s a song that really lets vocalist Kuroneko’s high tones shine.

To sing this track convincingly, it’s important not only to deliver the high notes in your chest voice with openness and ease, but even more crucial is how smoothly you can transition between registers in the chorus sections that switch into falsetto.

Master those seamless register shifts, perform it brilliantly, and bask in the praise from everyone around you!

Chanmina is a female rapper who has earned strong support from many women, armed with outstanding musicality and fashion.

Among her many hit tunes, the one I especially recommend is Biscuit.

While the overall vibe of this track is on the downbeat side, there’s a section in the C melody where she delivers a mix voice with powerful shouts.

Anyone can match the pitch, but producing a mix voice with that level of impact is extremely challenging—so give it a try!

[Official] Uru “KAMI HITOE (A Fine Line)” TV Anime “Hell’s Paradise” Ending Theme
a hair's breadthUru

This is Uru’s fifth digital-only single, released in April 2023.

It was selected as the ending theme for the anime “Hell’s Paradise.” It’s a very beautiful ballad, but Uru’s vocal expressiveness in this track is truly astonishing.

From whisper-like tones to powerful high notes, her singing feels wonderfully shape-shifting.

It’s not an easy song to tackle at karaoke, but I highly recommend it to those confident in their singing.

Be sure to study the original thoroughly before you sing—pay attention to how the vocal tone shifts across sections, as well as the pronunciation and expressive nuances of the lyrics.

ChocolakatabraAdo

Ado, a singer who enjoys overwhelming support from young people, is known for her outstanding vocal ability.

Among her songs, the one I especially recommend is “Chocolacatabra.” The toughest part of this track is definitely the chorus.

On top of a sudden key change from the pre-chorus, the sharply rising and falling melodies make it one of the most challenging pieces to sing.

In particular, mastering the falsetto sections in the chorus will likely require a great deal of practice.

Be sure to check it out.
