Kyoto Cultural Festival Calendar: University and Junior College Festival Schedule Summary [2026]

Kyoto Prefecture is home not only to universities with long traditions but also to many newer institutions, and the campus festivals held at each offer a rich variety.

Visitors will never be bored, with food stalls to enjoy, stage performances to get excited about, and opportunities to experience research presentations and exhibitions.

Toryo Festival | Kyoto University of EducationFri 11/7–Sun 11/9, Kyoto Prefecture

The Kyoto University of Education’s campus festival, commonly known as the Tōryō Festival, will be held again this year. Under each year’s theme, it features a children’s amusement park that changes its look, as well as other kids’ programs. As a yearly tradition, comedians from Yoshimoto also make an appearance. Shimei Festival | Otani UniversityFri 11/7–Sun 11/9, Kyoto Prefecture

Bukkyo University’s school festival, the Oryosai. The mascot character, Taka-tan—whose hobby is touring Kyoto’s many famed ramen shops—is adorably charming. Gaidaifest | Kyoto University of Foreign StudiesNov 2 (Sun) – 3 (Mon), Kyoto Prefecture

At Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, the Gaida Festival is held every year over the long weekend at the beginning of November. Geidai Festival | Kyoto City University of ArtsSat 11/1 – Mon 11/3, Kyoto Prefecture

As you would expect from an art university, the campus festival at Kyoto City University of Arts features exceptionally high-quality performances and food stalls. It serves as a venue for students to showcase the artistic skills they’ve developed in their daily studies, and in the past there has even been a musical performed with a full orchestra.
