[Sports Day for Adults] Events and Games Adults Can Enjoy & Classic Competitions (41–50)
Costume Relay

A costume relay is a simple game where athletes in costumes pass the baton in turn to see which team can reach the finish line the fastest.
Once you’re an adult, sprinting at full speed is tough enough as it is, and with the added weight of the costumes, everyone ends up running hard and out of breath—making it thrilling to watch, too.
Plus, with each person bringing their own outfit, ranging from superhero-style suits to cuddly mascots, just seeing the lineup is enough to get you excited!
Borrowed Item Race

The borrowing race, where you draw a prompt while running, find the specified item in the venue, and head to the finish line, is a staple event at sports days.
It can be fun to use things people in the venue are wearing as themes, but setting the prompts to be actual people might make it easier for the audience to understand.
Including the deliberation after you find the target and reach the goal, it seems like you can create an enjoyable atmosphere.
It’s not good if it turns into insults, so it’s important to choose simple prompts that anyone can understand or ones that are complimentary.
Kihei-giri (blindfold swordplay)

It really gets exciting when there’s a sport where people can compete on equal footing regardless of age or gender.
That’s why I recommend “Kehaigiri.” You often see it on variety shows.
In Kehaigiri, players are blindfolded and swing a stick, relying on their sense of the opponent’s presence; the first to land a hit wins.
It’s best to use sticks made of sponge or urethane so no one gets hurt if they’re struck.
It’s also guaranteed to be a blast when several people play at the same time!
oblique projectile motion
Let me introduce an oblique-throw relay that’s sure to energize your sports day.
The rules are simple: form teams of four.
Each team holds a blue tarp with a large ball placed in the middle and carries it to the area where a rope is stretched high above.
Working in sync, the four teammates use the tarp to launch the ball so that it goes over the elevated rope.
You must not use your hands to toss the ball—only pull and maneuver the blue tarp to send the ball upward.
After the ball clears the rope, catch it again with the tarp, return, and pass the turn to the next group.
Be careful when carrying the ball as it moves freely across the tarp.
Once the anchor group finishes, you’ve reached the goal.
Coordinate your timing and give it your best!
Gesture Telephone Game

The gesture-based telephone game that’s familiar from TV variety shows is easy to start and enjoy.
The rules are simple: the clue-giver conveys a prompt—something like “roller coaster”—using only gestures to the guesser.
Because it gets you moving, it can even help offset the lack of exercise from work, making it a game that kills two birds with one stone.
People who aren’t the clue-giver or the guesser also get excited watching the performance, so it’s highly recommended as a game everyone can get fired up about together!
In conclusion
Up to this point, we’ve introduced events and games for a sports day that adults can enjoy.
We included classic competitions, arranged versions of those classics, game-like activities, and events that are easy even for people who aren’t confident in sports.
I hope this article helps spark ideas to make your sports day more exciting.
