A masterpiece with exhilarating high notes. An enchanting high-tone voice.

Even when we simply say “high-tone voice,” there are many ways to express it—from piercing high notes sung in chest voice, to a softer, more mature high tone that effectively uses mixed voice or falsetto.

In this topic, we’ve gathered a wide variety of songs that showcase the appeal of different high-tone voices, ranging from the latest trending tracks to timeless classics.

High-tone vocals are pleasant to listen to on their own, but once you can comfortably sing high notes yourself, you’ll discover even more ways to enjoy these songs.

We hope this can serve as practice material and a point of reference for those who want to learn how to sing in higher registers.

Kenshi Yonezu “Spinning Globe” × Hayao Miyazaki “The Boy and the Heron”
globeYonezu Kenshi

This is singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu’s 14th single, released in July 2023.

The song we’re introducing here, “Spinning Globe,” was written as the theme for the film The Boy and the Heron, Hayao Miyazaki’s first feature-length directorial work in ten years.

It’s a slow-tempo ballad centered on piano accompaniment, and over its beautiful backing track you can fully enjoy Yonezu’s exceptionally captivating high-tone voice.

It never feels overbearing, yet his clear, resonant vocals shine through.

Also note the effective use of falsetto for the higher passages throughout the track.

Cry BabyOfisharu Higedan Dism

A digital distribution-only single by Official HIGE DANDism, released on May 7, 2021.

It also serves as the opening theme for the TV anime Tokyo Revengers.

From the very beginning of the song and the first vocal line, Satoshi Fujihara’s clear, expansive high-tone voice resonates pleasantly throughout.

In the chorus, the high notes ring out even more powerfully, and from the second chorus onward, the use of falsetto and mixed voice adds gentle, expressive nuances to the performance, which I find truly outstanding.

It’s a song that’s delightful just to listen to, but I think it can also serve as a helpful reference track for those who want to learn to sing with a high-tone voice.

I encourage you to try singing it yourself.

Because of the summerRADWIMPS

This is RADWIMPS’ first single, released in September 2020.

Even when we say “a singer with an appealing high tone,” there are many different types, but RADWIMPS’ Yojiro Noda is the kind of singer whose naturally high, almost boyish chest voice is incredibly attractive, in addition to his wide vocal range.

I feel that this vocal quality greatly contributes to creating the world of the song, which depicts summer scenes.

Coupled with the march-like drum progression in the arrangement, it’s a track that I think is exceptionally well produced.

A masterpiece with delightful high notes. Enchanting high-tone vocals (151–160)

Spitz / Nekochigura (from the film “Spitz Concert 2020: An Evening of Nekochigura”)

A digital-only single by Spitz, released in June 2020.

Even among high-tone singers, there are many different types, but Spitz’s vocalist Kusano has a very gentle and beautiful voice that delivers high notes wonderfully.

This song is no exception: Kusano’s warm, clear vocals add a rich hue to the track’s tender atmosphere.

It’s a top recommendation for anyone looking for a male vocal song with gentle high tones!

Return To MyselfHamada Mari

Mari Hamada “Return To Myself”
Return To MyselfHamada Mari

It was Mari Hamada’s ninth single, released in April 1989.

The album of the same title that includes this track was also the first of her albums to reach the top of the Oricon charts, and you could say this hit propelled Hamada—who debuted from the so‑called “Japametal” (Japanese heavy metal) scene—straight into the mainstream.

That said, her singing on this track still showcases the superhuman high tones she had been known for since her debut.

Her straightforward, rock-oriented vocal style that doesn’t rely on the falsetto range remains, in my view, something that many female rock singers should still regard as a bible today!

M87Yonezu Kenshi

This is Kenshi Yonezu’s 12th CD single, released on May 18, 2022.

It was written as the theme song for the film Shin Ultraman, which opened on May 13.

While it is, so to speak, an Ultraman theme song, it has been crafted into a piece with a distinctly mature mood, quite different from the Ultraman songs of the past—fitting for a work released in 2022.

Yonezu’s gentle yet powerful vocals seem to symbolize Ultraman himself, who is both strong and kind.

Vocally, the song fully showcases Yonezu’s tender falsetto and high notes achieved with mixed voice, making it an excellent study material for those researching male high-register vocals.

If you call it loveUru

Uru’s singing voice is often described as very delicate with a breathy whisper tone.

This technique is difficult for those who aren’t used to singing; if you try to imitate it suddenly, you may run out of breath, your voice may waver, or you could even feel light-headed.

That’s why the basics, especially diaphragmatic breathing, are essential! Also, instead of singing the A and B sections loudly, try delivering them as if you’re speaking to someone—you’ll capture more of Uru’s vibe.

It’s really fun once you can sing softly without your voice getting raspy, and it will broaden the range of songs you can handle!
