A masterpiece with exhilarating high notes. An enchanting high-tone voice.

Even when we simply say “high-tone voice,” there are many ways to express it—from piercing high notes sung in chest voice, to a softer, more mature high tone that effectively uses mixed voice or falsetto.

In this topic, we’ve gathered a wide variety of songs that showcase the appeal of different high-tone voices, ranging from the latest trending tracks to timeless classics.

High-tone vocals are pleasant to listen to on their own, but once you can comfortably sing high notes yourself, you’ll discover even more ways to enjoy these songs.

We hope this can serve as practice material and a point of reference for those who want to learn how to sing in higher registers.

A hundred flowers in full bloomIkuta Rira

The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 Non-Credit Opening | Ikuta Lira “Hyakka Ryoran”
A hundred flowers in full bloomIkuta Rira

A powerful, heartfelt song by Rira Ikuta that sings of the hope found beyond hardship.

Released in January 2025 as the opening theme for the second season of the anime The Apothecary Diaries, it beautifully captures the inner world of the protagonist, Maomao, living in a resplendent yet intrigue-filled harem.

The dramatic progression, combined with Ikuta’s characteristically clear, translucent vocals, deepens immersion in the story.

It’s a work that gives a gentle push to anyone feeling lost in life.

This is Lila Ikuta’s eighth digital-only single, released in January 2023; she is also active as ikura, the vocalist of YOASOBI.

By the way, the title “蒲公英” is read as “Tanpopo,” meaning dandelion.

Lila Ikuta has long been praised for her captivating high-tone voice, and that charm is in full effect in this track as well! By skillfully switching between a chest voice that resonates with rich upper overtones and a soft falsetto (head voice), she delivers a brilliant performance.

If you can reproduce this at karaoke, you’re sure to earn admiration from those around you.

But please, don’t strain your throat trying to force the high notes.

A story of uncovering the truthMatenrou Opera

The lead track from Visual Kei HM/HR band Matenrou Opera’s ninth full-length album, “A Story of Learning the Truth,” with the album released in June 2022.

Matenrou Opera’s sound uniquely blends elements of HM/HR and Visual Kei rock, and I feel that its characteristics are brought to their fullest in this fast, uptempo, driving song introduced here.

Vocalist Sono’s singing style is the quintessential Visual Kei frontman approach, so listeners may have sharply divided opinions, but I think it’s a track where the metallic, symphonic backing and Sono’s high-register voice fuse exquisitely.

CampanellaYonezu Kenshi

A track from Kenshi Yonezu’s album STRAY SHEEP, released in August 2020.

Known for his vocal prowess, Yonezu delivers an impressive performance in this song as well, skillfully employing mixed voice and falsetto.

In the D-melody section, he also uses high chest notes that verge on a shout.

I think it’s a difficult song to sing not just because it requires strong high notes, but that’s exactly why it’s worth the challenge.

Overall, it’s important to aim for a soft, non-aggressive high tone as the core of your delivery.

This was Gesu no Kiwami Otome’s major-label debut single, released on August 6, 2014.

I personally found it very interesting that, contrary to the band’s name and the song title, the track itself is crafted as a very orthodox pop song.

The band’s vocalist, Enon Kawatani, is also a captivating singer with a voice rich in higher overtones.

While it’s not exactly an overwhelmingly high-toned voice, his boyish, unadorned singing blends nicely with the song, making it, in my view, an excellent piece.

New meYOASOBI

YOASOBI’s new song “New me.” When you think of YOASOBI, sparkling pop tunes come to mind, but this track, while retaining that flavor, features smooth vocals that incorporate elements of city pop.

Musically, it has frequent key changes and falsetto, with pronounced jumps in pitch.

It doesn’t demand powerful vocals, but it does require impeccably precise pitch control, almost like a Vocaloid.

Be sure to add it to your repertoire.

Everyday lifeOfisharu Higedan Dism

This is Official HIGE DANDism’s sixth single, released in September 2023.

It’s their first CD single in about two and a half years and came out as a double A-side with “Chessboard.” The track is crafted into a very refreshing mid-tempo number.

What really accentuates that freshness is vocalist Satoshi Fujihara’s masterful use of various high tones in his singing.

It’s a song where you can fully enjoy his soaring high notes.

If you sing it at karaoke, try not to strain your throat and aim your voice toward your upper palate as you sing.
