Drum Mastery 2019 Shure Drum Contest feat. Senri KawaguchiKawaguchi Senri

Senri Kawaguchi, who has been playing drums since the age of five, began her path toward becoming a professional under Kozo Suganuma—one of Japan’s top drummers, known as the “King of Many Strokes.” Her drumming, rich in note density and clearly influenced by Suganuma, is captivating not only for its flurries of strokes but also for its delicate, highly varied phrasing.
Her skill is unquestioned—she won the runner-up prize in Rhythm & Drums Magazine’s drum contest.
While her ability to master a wide range of genres is part of her appeal, what leaves a lasting impression at her live shows is how much fun she clearly has on stage every time she plays.
Premeditated revengeNao

Among the members of that remarkably distinctive band, Nao stands out with a powerful persona that never fades.
She’s both the drummer and a vocalist, yet her singing voice is so gentle and cute that it’s hard to imagine from her appearance and drumming.
There was a period when she took time off for fertility treatment, and the band paused as well—that’s how indispensable she is to Maximum the Hormone.
MARIONETTETakahashi Makoto

The drummer for the legendary band BOØWY was Makoto Takahashi, known as “Mr.
Eight-Beat.” After BOØWY disbanded, he joined De-LAX, among other projects, and I’ve also seen him drumming for the solo activities of BOØWY’s members.
It’s something that makes BOØWY fans happy to know they’re still connected even now.
Just AwakeTomonori

Tomonori, the drummer for Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas, stands out even among Japan’s loud and screamo bands.
Given the band’s genre, their songs are incredibly fast-paced with intricate phrases that leave an impression, and he also lays down heavy grooves with style.
Another element that really catches the ear in Las Vegas’s drum sound is the use of bells and crotales, and the way he seamlessly weaves these into his phrases is a hallmark of his unique playing appeal!
DANCE MACABREMinato Masashi

Masafumi Minato played drums for DEAD END.
Influenced by his family, he seems to have been familiar with a wide range of sounds from a young age.
Recently, he took part in live performances as a touring member for Koji Kikkawa.
He’s a versatile player who handles not only rock but also jazz and funk.

promenadeIgarashi Kota

Kota Igarashi was active in JUDY AND MARY.
“Sanpomichi,” for which Igarashi was in charge of composing, was selected as Judy and Mary’s 14th single.
With this, every member has had a song they wrote chosen as a single.
nakano kill youPiēru Nakano

Pierre Nakano, the drummer for Ling tosite sigure—a band known for each member’s exceptional musicianship and irresistibly catchy songs—is a name that invariably comes up when introducing famous drummers in the Japanese rock scene.
His crisp, sharp drumming is captivating, and he’s also renowned for his high note density.
Of course, it isn’t just about playing a lot—his precision is a given.
In addition to Ling tosite sigure, he’s also known for performing behind numerous other musicians.
