LOVE ROCKETSKuhara Kazuyuki

KazuYuki Kuhara, known as a former member of THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT, a band that revolutionized Japan’s rock scene.
Since 2005, he has been active as the drummer of The Birthday, continuously supporting the band’s sound with his powerful 8-beat grooves and rhythmic fills.
Centered on rock, punk, and garage rock, his drumming is characterized by masterful technique that enhances the band’s musicality.
His striking performances at Fuji Rock Festival and ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL have left a lasting impression on many fans.
The Birthday’s music—spanning numerous releases such as the albums “Rollers Romantics” and “NOMAD”—cannot be discussed without Kuhara’s groove-driven playing.
Cherished for his distinctive personality as well, his appeal is recommended not only to rock fans but also to anyone interested in drums.

ThunderNobuaki Kaneko

Akihide Kaneko, who has been on drums for RIZE—one of Japan’s leading mixture rock bands—since their formation.
Lately, he’s also launched his solo project and is active as RED ORCA! Many of you probably also know him for his long-running career as an actor.
It might seem a bit unexpected given RIZE’s musical style, but one of his charms is not only his ability to deliver intense phrases, but also to play delicate, nuanced ones when the song calls for it.
His drumming is strikingly tight and razor-sharp, and though he may appear to play with cool composure, he’s a drummer burning with tremendous passion beneath the surface.
fragileMatsuoka Masahiro

When it comes to bands within Johnny’s, TOKIO is the one that comes to mind.
A few years ago they made waves by appearing at festivals, and you can see they’re moving forward solidly as a band rather than as idols.
Matsuoka is also a disciple of the renowned drummer Tohru “Soul” Soru, so they tend to be seen as an idol band, but in fact their skills are pretty formidable.
DominatorMARINA

Raised in a musical family and familiar with drums since the age of four, Marina joined the Japanese girls’ metal band Aldious in 2015, drawing attention with her technical and powerful drumming.
Formed in 2010, Aldious has focused on melodic heavy metal and released multiple albums and singles, achieving commercial success, including being selected for iTunes Best of 2016.
Marina’s skill and expressiveness were indispensable to the band’s live performances.
Unfortunately, she left the group in 2023 due to a recurrence of ulcerative colitis, but her contributions will remain in the memories of many fans.
Image Strategyhona ikoka

Ikoka Honai from Gesu no Kiwami Otome, who shot to fame as the “super cute drummer,” has a deliberately silly stage name derived from her real name, Honami.
Apparently, she’s not very fond of it herself.
She also works as an actress and is represented by Oscar Promotion, the same agency as Aya Ueto and Emi Takei.
HEADHUNTOkamoto Reiji

OKAMOTO’S is a band that has long been beloved in Japan’s music scene, especially by discerning rock fans.
The drummer is Reiji Okamoto.
Their songs feature a straightforward rock ’n’ roll sound, and his drum setup—perfectly suited to that image—with a one-tom configuration and only a crash and a ride cymbal is striking precisely because of its simplicity.
Though simple, his playing is full of groove and firmly lays the foundation for the band.
99.974℃komaki

Komaki, who has been active as a drummer for tricot and wrong city and has since supported artists like SUGIZO and Natsuko Nisshoku, is a drummer known for solid playing technique, backed by experience in a school wind ensemble.
During his time with tricot, he was not only adept at handling their mercurial, odd-meter songs, but his detailed drumming—such as powerful yet delicate ghost notes—was especially compelling.
He also works as a drum instructor and drum tech, making him one of the most accomplished drummers in today’s Japanese music scene.
