Japanese metal bands. From the mainstream to the unique, popular bands in Japan’s metal scene (61–70)
A Witch Named AspilcuettaABIGAIL

ABIGAIL is a black metal band formed in 1992.
As one of Japan’s veteran black metal bands, their sound—rich with an underground vibe—connects to the earliest wave of black metal built on a thrash metal foundation, and has earned high praise overseas.
They are highly active internationally, undertaking overseas tours and headlining foreign metal festivals, and are one of those Japanese metal bands that might actually be more well-known abroad than at home.
Je l’aimeMoi dix Mois

Moi dix Mois, the driving force of Japan’s gothic metal scene.
They are a solo gothic metal sound project formed around guitarist Mana.
It’s a subtle point, but while they are widely recognized as a band, the official stance is that it’s a solo project.
Be that as it may, their appeal lies in a style that incorporates a variety of genres and motifs.
I hope you’ll enjoy their chaotic world.
Day’s eyePARADOXX

Tokyo-based girls’ metal band PARADOXX is characterized by a melodious sound influenced by hard rock and heavy metal.
In 2024, they released their first album, “Paradoxical SINGULARITY,” accompanied by a tour.
Their debut single, “Athena / Break away,” features power metal–style tracks highlighted by striking high-tone vocals.
Each member has a distinct persona; for example, drummer SHONO serves as an official club ambassador for Júbilo Iwata.
With performances that are both powerful and melodic, along with intense stage shows, they’ve captured the hearts of girls’ metal fans.
Seen as a rising act alongside bands like BAND-MAID and LOVEBITES, they are expected to achieve even greater success going forward.
Promised DawnG∀LMET

G∀LMET is a five-piece all-female melodic death metal band that was active out of Osaka.
Since their formation in 2006, they have championed a unique style they call “Chaotic Moe Death Metal,” fusing ferocious death metal with a distinctly feminine cuteness to create a one-of-a-kind presence that has captivated a devoted fanbase.
They debuted in 2009 with the release LOVEMET, followed by a rapid succession of albums including HELLMET and Dawn of the Rebellion.
In 2012, they hosted their own event, the Metal Diva Festival, in both Tokyo and Osaka, further cementing their presence in the scene.
Even after disbanding in 2017, they reunited for a one-night-only show in 2018 and returned again for a revival live in 2024, continuing to electrify fans with undimmed appeal.
Their sound—an exquisite mix of melodic death metal and pop elements—comes recommended not only for metal fans but also for anyone curious about discovering new music.
TerrorismUZUMAKI

UZUMAKI is a band I’d recommend not only to fans of heavy metal but also to those who like hip-hop.
They’re pioneers of rap metal, delivering solid, hard-hitting rap over the raw power of heavy metal.
You can also sense death metal elements, such as the inclusion of shouts.
In any case, their sound is incredibly intense, so I suggest starting by listening to their tracks.
If you go through their albums in order, you’ll also get a feel for the band’s history.
