Easy cicada

Here’s how to make a cicada—the quintessential summer creature—that almost sounds like it might start chirping.

When folding the wings, tilt your folds slightly so they angle diagonally.

At the end, when bending the left and right sides, make diagonal folds while keeping a good balance between the cicada’s body and its wings.

Finish by drawing the face with round stickers and a felt-tip pen! Cicadas made with checkered origami paper are adorable, too.

It’s also fun to create a big tree on the wall and have the children stick on the cicadas they made.

Enjoy the activity while feeling the season!

corn

How about making corn—one of the summer vegetables that grows under plenty of summer sunshine—out of origami? For this, stack two sheets of origami paper, light green and yellow, with the white sides facing inward.

First, keep the papers stacked, fold them into a triangle, and open it.

Then fold both side corners and edges toward the center line.

Open both corners outward and fold them, then make small folds inward.

Flip it over and, imagining the shape of a corn cob, fold the top, bottom, left, and right corners.

Turn it over again, draw a face and the kernels, and you’re done! It’s an easy and cute craft, so give it a try!

Crease the origami paper, open it while puffing up the center to form the crab’s body, and fold the claws, pressing the folds as you go.

Finally, stick on the eyes and you’re done.

Using patterned origami paper lets you enjoy making different kinds of crabs.

Let’s make a retro-cute cream soda! ❤️ 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 Fizzy fizzy~ ✨ Don’t you crave cream soda in the hot summer? 🥰 It feels like there aren’t many places selling cream soda these days… But I absolutely love it! ❤️ Today I made a cream soda out of origami! I used white round stickers to represent the soda bubbles, but if you don’t have them, drawing circles with a white crayon or pen will give a soda vibe too 🙌 There are a few steps for the straw and cherry, but it’s very easy to make, so please give it a try! +——————————————+ I’m Sachi-mama, currently raising three rambunctious boys ages 7, 5, and 1 ❀´- I share play ideas and simple crafts with kids using 100-yen items, nature finds, and recycled materials. Let’s make a summery cream soda with origami.

Prepare one large sheet of origami paper, three small sheets, and some round stickers.

For the drink portion, fold the large sheet horizontally, then shape it evenly on both the left and right sides as you adjust the paper.

Cut a small sheet into quarters to make the cherry fruit and the cherry stem.

Once finished, attach them to the cream soda.

Finally, take one small sheet, offset-fold it into a triangle, and roll it to create a straw.

Give this delicious-looking cream soda a try!

Let’s make a seashell out of origami that captures the feeling of summer.

Fold the origami paper into a triangle twice, then unfold it once.

Fold the left and right corners in to meet the center line.

Fold those corners back outward, then fold the creases so they align with the center line.

Next, tuck the left and right corners up toward the center line so they go underneath the small triangle, and fold the tip of the small triangle slightly inward.

Finally, fold the top corner down to shape it like a shell, and you’re done.

Add patterns to make it cute!

A bamboo leaf that folds in eight steps

Folds in 8 steps! Tanabata Origami: Simple and Cute Bamboo Leaf Origami (For Kids!) · Origami Leaf
A bamboo leaf that folds in eight steps

Speaking of July, we have Tanabata, don’t we? In childcare facilities and the like, some may create bamboo grass decorations on the walls.

Here’s an origami idea for bamboo leaves that’s useful on such occasions and only takes eight folds.

First, fold the origami paper into a triangle to make a crease, then open it up and fold the two left edges to align with the crease.

At this point, make sure the tip is nice and sharp, and align the edges just slightly outside the crease.

Doing so will help express the leaf’s central vein.

Flip the paper over and fold the triangular section inward.

With the triangle’s base positioned at the bottom, refit the paper and fold the two bottom corners up to meet the center line.

Finally, tuck the left and right corners created in the last step slightly inward, and you’re done!

Cute morning glory

"How to Make Summer Flower Origami" Easy and Cute Morning Glory and Leaf with One Sheet (For Kids!) - Origami Morning Glory
Cute morning glory

Here’s an origami idea for morning glories, which are often used for summer wall decorations.

Fold the origami paper in half twice to make a square, then place it with the corner that will be the center of the flower pointing down.

Fold both sides of the top corner diagonally inward, crease well, then unfold and open the paper.

With the white side facing up, use the creases you just made as guides and fold both sides of each of the four corners.

Once folded, fold all four corners inward, leaving a small gap from the center.

Then fold the newly formed four corners outward to round the overall shape, and you’re done! The overlapping areas can be a bit stiff, so fold slowly to avoid injuring your hands.
