[For Older Adults] June-Themed Activities: Recommended Recreation and Game Collection (51–60)
Goldfish Game

At festival stalls, there’s usually a goldfish scooping game, right? Besides scooping, here’s a fun game that uses goldfish as the theme.
Two people hold the ends of a face towel, and place a goldfish plushie or a crafted goldfish on the towel.
While shaking the towel, they toss the goldfish into a basket that’s been set up in advance.
Assign points based on the size of the basket and the distance to the basket.
This innovative goldfish game should be enjoyable for older adults as well.
It also seems like it would be exciting to play as teams.
Fluffy ball

Let’s have fun with a game where you compete for points using balloons.
Inflate a balloon and tie a string to it with a weight attached to the end.
Before you start, write point values on the floor.
Aim for the spaces with the written points and throw the balloon.
The person who scores the most points wins.
The trick seems to be to swing the weight firmly as you throw the balloon.
Throwing the balloon can also be an effective workout for the upper body and arms.
Since balloons aren’t very heavy, there’s little risk of injury if they’re dropped, which is nice.
Strikeout

Strikeout is a game where you throw balls at numbered targets.
Besides being expected to benefit arm exercise, strikeout is also said to help strengthen the core.
By training the core, you improve body balance and help prevent falls.
It’s a game where you can knock down numbered targets and get a workout while having fun.
Because it’s a game that can be enjoyed in a lively, large group, it should create a cheerful atmosphere.
You can also have fun by making targets with illustrations or photos instead of numbers.
Plastic Bottle Bowling

Back in the late 1960s and early 1970s, bowling was hugely popular in Japan.
It’s said there were more than 3,500 bowling alleys nationwide, and bowling TV programs were very well received.
Let’s enjoy a bowling game that’s sure to spark nostalgic conversation.
Line up several plastic bottles on a table and have older adults roll a ball at them.
Since it’s a seated bowling activity, it’s suitable for people who have difficulty standing or who use wheelchairs.
With calls like “So close!” and “Strike!” the room is sure to take on a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Ball-Picking Game

When April comes, the weather becomes mild and there are more pleasantly warm days, don’t you think? It’s also a time when it’s easier to move your body, so why not have some fun with a simple game? Here’s a ball-collecting game that uses lots of balls.
Roll many balls across a table toward older adults seated in chairs.
The seated participants holding containers will pick up the balls as they roll toward them.
Since it can be done while seated, it’s accessible for those who have difficulty standing or for older adults who use wheelchairs.
What is the weight of the largest frog in the world?

In June, during the rainy season, we often see frogs.
You might spot them less frequently nowadays, but you can still hear their calls—sometimes even a full frog chorus from somewhere nearby.
Frogs have long been familiar to us, and there are many different species.
Among them is the Goliath frog, the largest frog in the world.
Its body alone is about 30 cm long, and when its limbs are stretched out, it exceeds 80 cm; astonishingly, it can weigh up to 3 kg! Let’s turn the Goliath frog’s weight into a quiz question.
Try asking people to guess, roughly, how much it weighs: “About how much do you think it weighs?” and collect their answers.
mizumanju (a Japanese chilled translucent rice flour dumpling, often with sweet bean paste)

June 19 is Wagashi Day, right? How about trying your hand at making traditional Japanese sweets to celebrate? I especially recommend making mizu manju.
Mizu manju are chilled dumplings made by wrapping sweet red bean paste (anko) in a translucent dough, then cooling them in cold water or in the refrigerator.
The process is fun, and it’s also great for cooling down in this hot and humid season.
Since there are quite a few steps involved, doing some prep by watching YouTube tutorials will help you make them smoothly.
