A selection of difficult songs that will earn you respect if you can nail them at karaoke! (201–210)

Beautiful finsupittsu

Spitz’s 46th single in total, released in April 2023.

It was reportedly written as the theme song for the feature film Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine.

While the song conveys a somewhat heartwarming mood, the vocal part is top-tier in difficulty—starting with a chorus melody that spans a wide range, contrary to the track’s gentle atmosphere.

To pull this off at karaoke, you’ll need precise pitch accuracy and the ability to switch vocal placement appropriately to match the notes you’re singing.

The beat also has a slight bounce to it, so be careful not to let it flatten out, and make sure your vocals don’t rush ahead of the backing track as you sing.

First LoveUtada Hikaru

All of Hikaru Utada’s songs are famously difficult, but this one is probably the best known and the hardest.

The tempo is on the slower side, but the gap between the low and high notes is so large that I don’t think anyone without a very wide vocal range can really pull it off.

MHamasaki Ayumi

This is another classic example of a difficult song.

The reason people say that is its pitch.

Even those who are good with high notes find the chorus so high that they can’t get their voice out.

But if you lower the key, other parts become too low and those end up being un-singable instead.

TipTapShimizu Miisa

Miisa Shimizu is a female singer-songwriter who is also active on variety shows.

She’s known for her powerful vocal ability, characterized by a soulful style rooted in R&B and soul.

Her new song, TipTap, features a sound reminiscent of electro-swing, though it leans more toward R&B than jazzy vocals.

With frequent use of falsetto and ad-libs, it’s a song that demands considerable vocal skill to pull off.

POP SONGYonezu Kenshi

A digital-download-only single by Kenshi Yonezu, released on February 7, 2022.

Because the song is sung relatively fast over a slightly bouncy beat, just that alone makes it a pick better suited for advanced karaoke singers.

First, cherish the song’s side-to-side groove and make sure your singing never turns flat.

Being keenly aware of where the snare drum accents fall will be the key to reproducing this rhythm and beat.

Also, recreating Yonezu’s slightly nonchalant singing style and vocalization is crucial to making the song sound good in karaoke.

Even in the high sections, be mindful to relax your throat so your high notes don’t get rough.

Wax MuseumSeikima II

This is a signature song by Seikima-II, one of Japan’s most iconic metal bands.

The chant “Shall I turn you into a wax figure too?!” is famous.

They’re often treated as a joke, but Demon Kakka’s vocals and the band’s musicianship are the real deal.

It’s a pretty difficult song to sing.

force majeureVaundy

This track was released as a digital-only single on January 22, 2020, and it gives the impression of “Only Vaundy could sing this!” I think you can broadly divide the song into two parts: the calmer first half and the latter half where the high notes really shine.

The range is very wide too, from A#2 to C5.

In the rap section of the first half, that relaxed feel is key.

Sing it coolly, but make sure your words are clear so it doesn’t turn into a mumble.

For the high notes starting from the chorus in the second half, lift your facial muscles to get ready, then project your voice as if aiming far into the distance! Since the high notes keep coming, that burst of energy—sheer momentum—is crucial.

When you nail this part, it feels amazing for both the singer and the listener! Vaundy has many challenging songs, so they’re really rewarding to practice.

Definitely give it a try!
