The Kichijoji Music Festival, which began in 1986, is a long-running city festival that will mark its 41st edition in 2026. The venues span all of Kichijoji in Musashino, Tokyo, with eight stages set up around town—including the plaza at the station’s North Exit and the area around Inokashira Park—filling the city with music against the backdrop of a unique culture where bustling commercial districts and residential neighborhoods blend seamlessly. Under the banner of a “festival of culture and creativity,” a diverse range of music—jazz, folk, rock, and more—colors the entire city over three days during the Golden Week holidays.

Set against the grounds of Senshōzan Senryū-ji, an ancient temple said to have been founded in the Nara period, this is a handmade festival of coffee and music presented by “comaecolor,” a pro bono team of Komae citizens. Eighteen roasters from Japan and abroad gather day by day along the verdant approach, while 15 acoustic-centered artists perform on stage nearby. Held over three days during Golden Week in May 2026, it is a beloved, homegrown event that has grown with each edition.

Kokubunji is a city of music where Kiyoshiro Imawano spent his childhood, Haruki Murakami once ran a jazz café, and the rock café Honyarado still shines today. KokuFes is a community-driven festival launched in 2020 by a citizen executive committee to showcase local appeal, creating two days when music rises from every corner of the town.
