List of Local Festivals Nationwide [2026]

Musikfest Nara, whose name comes from the German word for “music festival,” is a large-scale music festival organized by Nara Prefecture that began in 2012. Venues across the prefecture include World Heritage shrines and temples, historic halls, as well as cafés and community centers in town, blending the ancient capital’s scenery with a rich variety of sounds. Centered on classical music, the lineup spans jazz, traditional Japanese music, world/folk music, and rock, fostering a community-wide music culture. In 2026, it will run for an extended period from May through December.

A day of music and a market that has continued with the aim of creating a place where local people can gather and thrive in their own community, set at JR Unebi Station in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture. Using the historic station building—which includes a VIP room established for visits to the Unebi Mausoleum—as the venue, there will be a music stage alongside local food and merchandise booths. A diverse lineup including Band and CHARHAN is scheduled to appear, and the interior of the VIP room will also be open to the public. The 9th edition will be held in May 2026.

This is an interactive outdoor event themed around dinosaurs and music, held at 50,000 Forest Park in Gojo City, Nara Prefecture. The venue will feature a moving dinosaur approximately 4 meters tall, along with a variety of programs such as dinosaur races, DJ performances, magic shows, and live painting. In the nature-rich park dotted with a museum and observatories designed by Tadao Ando, numerous food trucks and cafes will also be on site, allowing families to relax and spend the whole day. The event will be held with free admission in May 2026.

YARDMAN VIBES is an outdoor reggae event hosted by the Osaka-based sound system JAH WORKS. The venue is Kogawa Highland Park on Mount Katsuragi in Wakayama, where you can immerse yourself in music surrounded by mountain nature, powered by the heavy bass of the JAH WORKS FULL SOUND SYSTEM. In 2026, it will be held over two dates—May 24 and June 21—with performances by Cocochee, BOOGIE MAN, ZERO MOVEMENT, and more.

This open-air cinema festival, which began in 2015, takes place on Jinoshima, an uninhabited island off the coast of Arida City in Wakayama Prefecture. Along the roughly 400-meter beach, visitors can enjoy workshops, island walks, and live music during the day, and after sunset, carefully curated film screenings and evenings gathered around a bonfire unfold. It is a participatory outdoor festival built on the concept of loosening the boundary between “provider” and “recipient,” enabling participants themselves to create small festivals and communities.
