DISH// – Cat [Special Studio Version 2020]

It’s the B-side track to DISH//’s 10th single, “Bokutachi ga Yarimashita,” released in August 2017.

Incidentally, the songwriting was handled by Aimyon.

Besides the version featured on THE FIRST TAKE that I’m introducing here, it seems several other remake versions have also been released.

The song itself has a warm, easygoing feel and is very approachable, so even people who aren’t confident singers may find it relatively easy to choose for karaoke.

Takumi Kitamura’s vocals have a bright, resonant quality rich in upper overtones, which might make some think it’s a high hurdle—but don’t be intimidated; give it a try.

I’m sure you’ll discover how singable it really is!

era; age; time; periodMy Hair is Bad

My Hair is Bad is a three-piece rock band that has been active since the late 2000s.

While many bands today incorporate a variety of musical styles and have become more complex, they stick to a sound that feels like good old Heisei-era rock.

Among their songs, the one I particularly recommend is “Jidai” (Era).

The vocal range is fairly wide, but since falsetto is rarely used, it’s high yet relatively easy to sing.

The rhythm is also easy to grasp, so definitely give it a try.

Mr.Children is a rock band that has remained active from the 1990s to the present.

Since their major debut in 1992, they have consistently released songs every year, producing a string of hits.

Kemonomichi is their new track.

While its serious and grand melody is striking, the vocal line is on the easier side.

It’s not that the song has a particularly narrow range, but there is always ample setup before long notes or high notes, so you’re less likely to run out of breath or have your voice crack.

Producer Taku Inoue is known for bringing out the best in artists while crafting stylish melodies.

He has collaborated with many popular artists, so many of you may already know him.

His collaboration with singer-songwriter Natori is this track, “Lights Off (feat.

Natori).” True to Natori’s vocal style, the song maintains a subdued, downbeat mood throughout, without dramatic jumps in pitch.

It also doesn’t demand much vocal power, making it a piece you can sing comfortably even after performing many songs.

It’s fine.Urufuruzu

Ulfuls has continued to win support from men by boldly singing, without hiding it, about the straightforward way of life of guys who might seem uncool or lame.

While the melody is easy to sing to begin with, for this song you should focus less on hitting every note and more on conveying genuine emotion.

It’s an easy song to sing regardless of generation.

“Tomodachi no Uta” is a moving ballad with a pleasant melody and touching lyrics.

The words, which express feelings for a friend living far away, are quite moving and likely resonate with many listeners.

The song’s vocal range is just over one octave—fairly narrow—and the pitches sit comfortably within a range that most men can sing.

Combined with its relaxed tempo and simple melody, it should be easy to sing.

Because the range is narrow, if high notes are difficult, you can lower the key.

Izakaya (feat. Tokkuri)SKRYU

Rapper SKRYU, who has gained overwhelming support from young people after going viral on TikTok.

He’s a rapper known for his comedic tracks paired with a high level of skill that’s the complete opposite of that playful style.

Among his songs, the one I especially recommend is Izakaya (feat.

Tokkuri).

The flow is a bit tricky, but because of its comedic tone, it’s also a track where you can get away with some rough edges.

It’s a popular song on TikTok, so definitely give it a try.
