IdeaHoshino Gen

IdeaHoshino Gen

This is a song by Gen Hoshino released in August 2018, which served as the theme for NHK’s morning drama series “Half, Blue.” It’s a track that conveys the importance of living positively, carrying a powerful message about using the strength of ideas to forge a path even in difficult situations.

Its distinctive sound—where a pop, catchy melody is beautifully balanced with electronic beats and acoustic elements—leaves a strong impression.

It’s a song that gives you the courage to carve out your life with fresh ideas, especially when you’re feeling emotionally worn out, making it perfect for relieving stress.

It’s highly recommended for karaoke when you want a boost of energy, need to face forward and do your best, or are ready to take on a new challenge.

This is SUPER BEAVER’s fourth digital-only single, released in December 2023.

It was chosen as the theme song for the 103rd National High School Rugby Tournament.

Depending on how you listen, vocalist Ryota Shibuya’s voice can sound somewhat like a slightly husky female vocal, so I thought it might be a great karaoke recommendation for women with lower voices and decided to introduce it here.

Musically, it’s a mid-tempo pop-rock number.

Just be careful not to rush the rhythm when singing; if you keep the tempo grounded and sing with strength throughout, it should feel really good.

Give it a try!

You are mine.Snow Man

This refreshing, classic pop tune was released as one of the double A-side tracks on Snow Man’s 11th single in July 2024.

Chosen as the theme song for the drama “Aoshima-kun wa Ijiwaru,” starring group member Shota Watanabe, the track was created around the theme of summer memories.

It’s a sweet-and-sour love song that warmly captures the spark of a romance that begins in a fleeting moment and the feelings for someone special.

With a breezy melody that builds with rising emotions and lyrics depicting bright, forward-looking feelings of love, it has a universal appeal that anyone can relate to.

While Snow Man often has songs that seem challenging to sing at karaoke, this one—though it features some falsetto high notes—has a straightforward melodic progression and is very easy to sing, so definitely give it a try.

Aile The Shota, a highly skilled artist recognized by SKY-HI, is known for his style that skillfully blends R&B and other forms of Black music into pop, earning strong popularity especially among young women.

Among his songs, the one I particularly recommend is SAKURA (Prod.

Taka Perry).

While it features a stylish melody, the R&B elements are relatively light, so you won’t encounter advanced vocal techniques like melisma or other embellishments.

There are no parts that require belting either, making it a song you can handle well with just solid basic technique.

The Oden SongFusee

Fusee – Oden Song (Music Video)
The Oden SongFusee

Fusee is a band gaining popularity for lyrics that portray real, human psychology.

Their powerful melodies are also a draw, and they’re steadily building recognition in the Japanese rock scene.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is Oden no Uta.

Despite the unique title, the melody and lyrics are straightforward.

The melody in particular features an emotionally charged vocal line, yet the surprising thing is that the range is relatively narrow, so even men with lower voices can sing it comfortably.

La Palummellakururi

Quruli/Daniele Sepe – La Palummella
La Palummellakururi

Quruli is a band that has enjoyed long-lasting popularity thanks to its highly original musicality.

With each step in their career, they have taken on songs that incorporate genres beyond rock, releasing tracks that are unlike anything else every time.

Their new song, La Palummella, features a decadent melody and a vocal line built around repetition.

While the pitch movement is gentle, the overall range is somewhat wide, so if you’re worried about your vocal range, we recommend singing the high sections an octave lower.

Friends’ SongZūkaraderu

Friends' SongZūkaraderu

Zutto Mayonaka de Ii no ni.? No, the band Zukkadareru—highly regarded among hardcore Japanese rock enthusiasts.

Rather than chasing sales with trend-driven tracks, they stick to the music they truly want to make, which has earned them enduring popularity among rock fans.

Among their songs, one that’s especially celebrated as a masterpiece is Tomodachi no Uta (A Friend’s Song).

While the piece is captivating for its emotionally rich vocals, the surprising thing is that the vocal line itself has a narrow range and rarely jumps abruptly in pitch.

It also works perfectly well with a bold, forceful singing style that’s the complete opposite of delicacy, so consider adding it to your repertoire.
