Rokushinseki Shrine Grand Music FestivalSaturday, June 6, Iwate Prefecture
RokushinsekI Shrine in Tono City, Iwate Prefecture, is an ancient shrine with a history spanning over 1,200 years since Daidō 2 (807) in the Nara period. A music event is held at its kaguraden (sacred dance pavilion), a structure built by master temple carpenter Koji Kikuchi, the last apprentice of Tsunekazu Nishioka. First launched in 2024 by the locally led ROCK-Oshi Executive Committee, the event promotes “Shrine ROCK,” fusing Tono’s unique culture with music to showcase new regional appeal. Scheduled for June 2026.

CHAGU CHAGU ROCK FESTIVALSat 6/6 – Sun 6/7, Iwate Prefecture
As a music festival originating in Iwate, it aims to resonate with the best sound under the watchful presence of the majestic Mount Iwate, and 2026 marks its third edition. Its name reflects a wish to cultivate music that will be cherished for years to come, much like Iwate’s traditional event “Chagu Chagu Umako.” Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Kroi, and Golden Bomber are among the performers, bringing scenes of unity that transcend generations and backgrounds to Takizawa City in June 2026.

Oshu Music FestivalSunday, 6/14, Iwate Prefecture
Oshu Music Festival is a community music event held in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, with its first edition in November 2025. In 2026, it will be held as OSHU MUSIC FESTIVAL vol.02 on Sunday, June 14, on Mizusawa Station Street (in front of the Mizusawa Grand Hotel), jointly with the 76th Mizusawa Merchants Festival. Admission is free, and performers of all genres—solo acts, bands, dancers, and more—will enliven the downtown area.

INAKAFES CAMP is an outdoor festival in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, built on the concept of recreating in the present day—as a festival celebrating country life—the traditions of our predecessors who tilled the fields and celebrated the harvest together with music. The venue is Toriyagasaki Park in Hanamaki City, and in addition to live music, it’s a stay-type event where visitors can enjoy workshops themed around local livelihoods and breweries. In 2026, it will be held over two days, from June 20 to 21.

This is an outdoor music event held at Plaza Odette Square, located in the heart of Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. Its distinctive feature is an open call for performers targeting bands, artists, and groups from the university, junior college, and vocational school age range. Selected performers will appear on stage on the day of the event, each presenting a live set within an allotted time. The event will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026; doors open at 10:00, performances start at 10:30, and the event is scheduled to end at 17:00. Admission is free.

Chicken SonicSun, 7/12, Iwate Prefecture
Chicken Sonic is an outdoor music festival held at Nines Stadium in Kunohe Village, Iwate Prefecture. Under the slogan “Chikisoni in Kunohe,” it is organized by an executive committee formed by volunteers from the Kunohe Village Office, the Chamber of Commerce, and local businesses, with the aim of revitalizing the region and showcasing Kunohe’s appeal. Transforming the village ballpark into a stage for a homegrown music celebration, preparations are underway again this year for the event scheduled for July 2026.

KESEN ROCK FESTIVALSat 7/18 – Sun 7/19, Iwate Prefecture
An outdoor rock festival held at Yumekai Park in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture. Live performances take place over two days along the Sanriku coast, and the event goes ahead rain or shine. Discounted student tickets are available for local junior high and high school students who live or attend school within the Kesen area, reflecting strong ties with the community. According to the official Q&A, another distinctive feature is that it is run by the executive committee without sponsors. In 2026, it will be held over two consecutive days, Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19.
