[Age 4] Crafts to make with middle-year kindergarteners in July–August! Summer-themed craft activities (121–130)

Summer vegetable curry with vegetable stamps

Let’s make a summer vegetable curry using stamps made from real vegetables! We’ll use eggplant, okra, kabocha squash, carrot, lotus root, and more.

Cut the vegetables so their cross-sections are visible.

On white construction paper, draw an elongated oval and cut it out; on brown construction paper, sketch the curry shape and cut that out as well.

The white elongated oval will be the rice, so glue the brown curry piece on top of it.

Add vegetables by stamping onto the curry, then glue everything onto a paper plate and a backing sheet to finish! Be sure to use lots of colors for the stamps and create a curry that looks delicious!

Many children love collecting insects.

And when it comes to insects you want to catch in the summer, rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles come to mind.

So here’s an idea for making a stag beetle with origami! After folding the paper into a triangle, flip it top-to-bottom, then fold the left and right corners to meet at the center to make creases.

Fold along those creases to form the stag beetle’s mandibles, and tuck the bottom corner slightly inward to finish! Since the mandibles involve opening and flattening a pocket, it can be tricky—try making it together with an adult if it’s difficult.
