uchiwa (Japanese hand fan)

Let’s make an indispensable summer uchiwa fan out of origami! With the colored side up, fold the paper into a triangle, then fold again, aligning the paper’s edge along the crease.
Fold the non-pointed side outward and flip it over, then fold the triangular parts sticking out on the sides inward.
Flip it over again, fold the fan’s handle, and finally tuck the corners inward to round them off.
Your small origami uchiwa is complete! It also looks lovely mounted on construction paper and displayed alongside summer-themed motifs like morning glories or sunflowers.
Guri and Gura’s Seaside Swim

Let’s try making a craft inspired by the picture book “Guri and Gura’s Seaside Adventure.” First, use blue and white paint on light blue construction paper to create waves.
Prepare the environment so the children can freely express themselves.
Make Guri and Gura using origami—don’t forget their trademark red and blue hats.
Next, cut out two swim rings from construction paper.
Finally, glue all the parts onto the paper, and it’s complete! Just looking at it will make you feel like you’re at the beach.
Gorgeous sunflower with accordion folding

How about a gorgeous sunflower made entirely with accordion folds? Its luxurious look is sure to get kids excited! Take yellow origami paper and fold it in an accordion, then fold it in half to make four pieces.
Round off one end into a petal shape, then glue the pieces together and form them into a circle.
Finish by creating the center part with origami paper, and you’re done.
Since the accordion folding is a simple, repetitive step, once you’ve learned it, you can make lots! Give it a try as a summer vacation craft.
ice cream
When you think of summer, many of you probably picture sweet, delicious ice cream.
While you might not often get to enjoy double or triple scoops in real life, you can make them with origami! The finished size will differ depending on whether you use 7.5 cm or 15 cm origami paper, but if you’re folding with kids, starting with 15 cm is recommended.
For the ice cream part, choose your favorite colors or patterns to create your ideal ice cream.
It’s an origami idea that lets your imagination soar.
watermelon

The crisp green and red watermelon motif just lifts your spirits, doesn’t it? When making a watermelon with origami, the key step is creating the crease lines.
It’s also great practice for making neat, clean creases.
By preparing the base first and then changing how you fold, you can make two versions: a large watermelon and a small one.
You can adjust the size to suit where you’ll display them or the kids’ preferences, and it’s fun to make a bunch of them, too.
Let’s enjoy origami while chatting and sharing ideas.
Feel the summer vibes indoors with the air conditioning on.
cicada

In summer, you can hear cicadas chirping everywhere.
You can make this one quickly with origami, too.
The folding method is the same as the samurai helmet up to a certain point, so it should be easy to follow.
Adding cute eyes makes it look even more like a cicada.
Making lots of cicadas and letting them perch on a tree made from colored construction paper, or sticking them on curtains or walls, would create a seasonal feel and be fun.
Besides the commonly seen way to fold a cicada, there are several variations, so it might be enjoyable to look them up and collect different kinds of origami cicadas.
Dahlia

Let’s make a vibrant dahlia flower out of origami.
By delicately spreading and folding the petals, you’ll achieve a gorgeous finish that truly resembles a dahlia.
Children who love flowers will be delighted.
The key to folding a beautiful dahlia is to proceed carefully through each step, aligning the paper precisely as you fold.
Working in a small group with a teacher’s help will result in a cleaner finish.
It’s a lovely origami project that will make you want to create many in different colors.
