Sanwa Shurui uses “Sayonara Namida” in its iichiko commercials.

This song is a supreme ballad released in 2016 by the Tokyo-born folk duo Billy BanBan.

The beautiful piano and acoustic guitar accompaniment pairs exquisitely with the gentle voices of Takashi Sugawara and Susumu Sugawara on vocals.

The calm melody, which evokes images of vast open landscapes, is another charm of the song.

The lyrics are also very beautiful, so be sure to check them out along with the track!

A commercial imbued with a message wishing for a world where people can support one another.

Singer-songwriter Hikaru Utada created the CM song “Electricity” and also appears in the ad.

Her rhythmic vocals unfold over a lively, electro-based beat.

The warm melody perfectly matches the commercial’s theme of conveying gratitude to those we cherish.

With rich synth tones, the song’s lyrics—sprinkled with mysterious phrases—linger in the ear.

They were featured in a commercial for Glico’s gum, Watering Kiss Mint.

The ad itself starred Ringo Sheena, who provides the vocals, showing her chewing the gum.

As the title suggests, the song is exactly three minutes long, and remarkably, it was composed so that when repeat is turned on, it can loop seamlessly forever.

SWEET MEMORIESMatsuda Seiko

This is a slightly bittersweet commercial about a man who stops by a McDonald’s and spots his ex-wife, whom he’s separated from.

It’s for the Night Mac ‘Gohan Burger,’ and it features “SWEET MEMORIES,” a classic hit by Seiko Matsuda, a singer who epitomized the idol scene of the 1980s.

I imagine many people heard the song on TV and suddenly became curious about the ad’s story.

The gentle smile in Knights comedian Hanawa’s performance carries a nice touch of melancholy—it suits the mood of the song perfectly.

Composed by Koichi Morita with lyrics by Akira Ito, Seiun no Uta is a famous song used in Nippon Kodo’s Seiun commercials.

In fact, the song was specially written for the commercial in 1981, and it has continued to be loved as Seiun’s image song ever since.

Incidentally, the original vocalist was Koichi Morita, the lyricist, and the song has since been passed down and performed by Kiyohiko Ozaki, Ken Nishikiori, and Taihei Hayashiya.

Listening to this piece, its refined melody brings a sense of calm to the heart.
