NISSIN Donbei “Heartwarming Double Broth” Version

For Harumi Miyako, the 1975 song “Kita no Yado kara,” her third million-seller, is one of her signature tracks and has been covered by numerous artists, including Keisuke Kuwata and Fuyumi Sakamoto.
With lyrics by Yū Aku and music by Asei Kobayashi, it’s a heartbreak song that lays bare feelings for someone who cannot be forgotten.
It was featured in Nissin Donbei’s “Soul-Warming Double Dashi” commercial starring Riho Yoshioka and Gen Hoshino, where Yoshioka’s character, the fox spirit Don Gitsune, single-mindedly shaves katsuobushi—an especially memorable image.
There’s also an anecdote that the sweater sequence was conceived as a ritual to mark a clean break after a separation, which seems to echo the scene where the glasses are thrown.
It’s a song that poignantly captures a woman’s feelings as she pines in the harsh cold of the northern lands.
