You’ve definitely heard it before! Chocolate commercial songs (21–30)
The theme of Meiji chocolate

The original song “Meiji Chocolate Theme,” well-known from Meiji’s chocolate commercials.
The slightly retro, kayōkyoku-style melody really leaves an impression, doesn’t it? You can’t forget this song that’s indispensable to Meiji’s chocolate ads! The lyrics, which simply repeat the company name and the word “chocolate,” are as addictive as the chocolate itself.
Once you hear it, it’s not uncommon to have the tune stuck in your head all day, is it? That’s probably exactly what Meiji is aiming for.
And sure enough, once you listen, you fall right into their trap and end up buying it, don’t you?
Original song
This is a commercial where the “Anpan Uncle,” who also appears on the package, introduces Bourbon’s popular product Choco Anpan with a snappy rap.
It was apparently aired only in Niigata Prefecture, where Bourbon’s headquarters are located.
The contrast between the calm, gentle uncle and the neon-lit visuals creates a fun vibe.
The rap featured in the commercial is an original piece made specifically for it.
Set to lively music, it straightforwardly conveys what Choco Anpan is like as a product, expressing a strong desire to get people to try it.
Winter kissAragaki Yui
Many of you might watch this commercial that starts airing a little before winter begins and think, “It’s that time of year again…” Right? It’s the classic winter ad from Meiji: the Meltykiss commercial.
The 2024 version once again features Yui Aragaki, who hums the familiar original song while enjoying Meltykiss.
Not only are the scenes that capture the deliciousness of Meltykiss a highlight, but Yui Aragaki’s singing and expressions are must-see as well!
Delicious seasonShiina Ringo

Not only the chocolate but also the packaging is delightful in Meiji’s “THE Chocolate.” The song used in its commercial is Ringo Sheena’s “Oishii Kisetsu” (“Delicious Season”).
This song, which portrays the frustrating feelings of a girl in love, was originally written for actress Chiaki Kuriyama.
It was later self-covered by Tokyo Jihen in live performances and on an album.
For Meiji’s commercial, however, the version sung under Ringo Sheena’s solo name—not Tokyo Jihen—was used.
You can truly feel the aching, chest-tightening emotions of a girl in love through Ringo Sheena’s voice!
ChocolakatabraAdo

This is a collaborative commercial with Ado to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Lotte’s chocolate business.
Set in a chocolate factory at midnight, the CM is crafted as an animated piece that links to the worldview of the lyrics, which depict the lives of three girls.
The song, released in January 2024, features a danceable beat and Ado’s signature alluring vocals.
The lyrics evoke a fantastical atmosphere, so be sure to watch the music video and let your imagination wander through the story as you listen.
cute personUrufuruzu

It was released in 1997 as Ulfuls’ 15th single.
The music video drew attention for featuring Jo Shishido.
It was also used as the theme song for Glico’s “Pocky Saka Koi Monogatari” commercial, and many people are familiar with the song because the catchy chorus was used in the ad.
Sugar losswanuka

Wanakusa’s “Sugar Loss” is a track included on the 2022 album Aonisei.
While it seems to depict feelings at the time of parting, its light, buoyant sound creates a mysterious atmosphere.
The lyrics, which pay close attention to rhyme, are another highlight; by expressing goodbye in a breezy way, they convey a sense of determination to move forward.
As for commercial tie-ins, it was used in a Morinaga DARS commercial—the airy sound and gentle vocals are a perfect match for chocolate.
