[For Seniors] Recommended for day services! Simple and cute small craft ideas

Craft time at the day service is an important activity that enriches both mind and body.

Each piece—like adorable pipe-cleaner bouquets and handy little organizers—shines with its own personality.

They’re lovely to use yourself, and they’d surely delight someone special as a gift!

None of the projects are very complicated, so you can take your time and work at your own pace.

Making them while chatting with other participants also helps expand your circle of communication.

Why not choose your favorite materials and colors to create a one-of-a-kind handmade piece in the whole world?

Bookmark remade from a paper bag

Do you ever find yourself holding onto paper shopping bags you brought home because you think you might use them someday, and they just keep piling up? Try making bookmarks by upcycling those paper bags! Cut the bag into long, narrow strips, then make small slits along one half of each strip.

Fold back each slit one by one to create a delicate pattern.

Slip a piece of origami paper of your choice between the layers, and it’s done.

Since paper bags are often made from relatively sturdy paper, you can make solid, durable bookmarks.

Simple bookmarks made from plain bags are lovely, but if you use bags with illustrations or patterns, you can create a one-of-a-kind bookmark!

Let’s make a cute owl using a hot glue gun.

Use a pine cone as the base, cut the face and wing parts from felt, and simply glue them on—it’s easy.

Once the owl is finished, attach it to the base.

The cutest part of this idea is using a nut to make it look like the owl is wearing a little hat.

The eyes are basically made from felt, but if you use sticker eyes, the owl will have a slightly different look.

Felt doesn’t have to be only brown—using red, yellow, and other colors to make it colorful is adorable too.

Let’s try making an owl using pinecones, acorn caps, leaves, googly-eye stickers, felt, and construction paper.

Glue an acorn cap to the pinecone base with the inside of the cap facing forward.

Attach small googly-eye stickers inside the cap.

Cut feet and a beak from felt or construction paper and glue them to the base.

To evoke outstretched wings, attach leaves on both sides—and it’s done.

The owl’s look will change depending on the color and shape of the wings, so find leaves you like and give it a try.

Here’s a cute handmade owl idea that looks like it’s perched on a tree branch.

Stick googly eye stickers onto the flat bottom of a pine cone.

Cut out feet from felt (or similar), insert them into the pine cone, and glue on curled, narrow dried leaves as decorative feathers.

Then place the owl on a suitable small twig, and it’s done.

This idea looks even cuter if you make several owls using the same steps and line them up, rather than making just one.

Try finding some small pine cones and give it a go.

Here’s an idea for an owl with impressively fluffy feathers.

Start by attaching googly eyes to a pine cone, which will serve as the owl’s body.

Glue on a triangular beak made from construction paper or felt.

Then, attach fluffy white plant material—like pampas grass—to resemble feathers.

Trim off any unnecessary stems and glue the pieces facing downward.

Make feet from small twigs and attach them.

Finally, fix the owl onto a perch with strings on both sides for hanging, and you’re done.

Owl made of felt and pine cones

Here’s an idea for making owls using pine cones and felt.

Use a pine cone as the base for the owl.

Cut the owl’s eyes, beak, wings, and facial parts from your choice of felt.

Once you glue the parts onto the base, it’s complete.

Using felt in various colors will make your owl look vibrant.

It’s a fun idea that brings out each maker’s individuality.

Try adding patterns to the wings or designing the eyes to evoke a bird of prey.

Pine Cone Owl - Christmas Decoration

Would you like to make an owl Christmas ornament? Start with a pine cone as the owl’s base and attach eyes, wings, and a beak cut from thin leather or felt.

Then add a red triangular hat made from fabric or a yarn pom-pom to give it a Santa-style look.

Your owl is now complete! Next, glue the owl onto a base made from cardboard and decorate around it with faux greenery, nuts, and other natural accents.

You can leave the cardboard as is, or paint it white and add cotton to create a snowy scene.
