Fairy Tale Guessing Quiz

How about doing a quiz based on old folktales—something that might bring back memories like reading to your children or reading books to your grandchildren? For example, if you hear “drifted down the river,” “defeating ogres,” and “three companions,” you’d think of… Momotaro, right? Folktales often have similar plots or openings, so they can be a bit confusing.
If you include hints along with each question, it will be easier to understand and answer.
After the answer is revealed, you could also talk a bit about the story itself.
Who Is It? Quiz – Intermediate Level

This is a type of question where clues are presented in sequence, and you gradually get closer to the answer from there.
It tests your ability to expand ideas from written text.
The hints are basically given in three stages, and the later they are, the easier it becomes to notice the answer.
So someone with sharp intuition might figure it out from the very first hint.
Each sentence is packed with many features, so be sure to think carefully about what to focus on.
Because the questions are presented in text, people who struggle with reading may find it harder to organize their thoughts.
It’s recommended to support them while they think—for example, by pointing out important words within the text.
Aquarium Edition

There are many waterside creatures around the world, including ones you can only see at aquariums.
This is a quiz where we focus on the theme of waterside creatures and aquariums, and you guess the answer from the hints provided.
Each hint is short and simple, but having the broad theme of “aquarium” narrows down the possibilities and makes it easier to arrive at the answer.
If you still can’t figure it out, we can add more hints—such as specific details about their ecology or whether they’re edible.

Historical Figures Edition

Questions that ask participants to name historical figures might be solvable even with difficult clues if they like history or are well-versed in it.
It’s clear and effective to give hints about the region and era in which the person was active, as well as episodes related to them.
We recommend starting with more obscure anecdotes and gradually moving toward the classic stories found in textbooks.
After revealing the correct answer, it might also be nice to invite participants to share what they know, so you can learn additional episodes beyond the hints.
Dish guessing quiz

Meals are an essential part of everyday life, and most of us have encountered many dishes over the years.
This quiz not only tests how many dishes you know, but also your understanding of how they’re made.
The hints are photos of ingredients; as you recall what each ingredient is, you’ll predict the dish created by combining them.
If ingredient hints alone feel too difficult, it’s also helpful to include hints about cooking methods—how the ingredients are used—as part of the clues.
Guess the Object Quiz

Let’s have fun turning all sorts of things into quiz questions—everyday items that everyone has seen or touched, must-haves for seasonal events, and more! If you’re making quiz questions, everyday objects are great topics because you can find hints everywhere.
And if the answer is something you can prepare as a real object, you can reveal it with, “Here’s the answer!”—which really livens up the quiz.
Tying it to seasonal events also makes it easy: Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day), Children’s Day, hina dolls, and koinobori carp streamers all work well as quiz themes.
Communication Game

It’s a communication-focused game where you freely ask questions to someone acting as the given theme, and use their answers to get closer to figuring out what the theme is.
Questions should basically be answerable with either “yes” or “no,” so think about what kinds of hints will be most effective as you proceed.
Until you get used to it, feel free to repeat questions as many times as needed to reach the answer; once everyone is familiar with the rules, it’s also recommended to set a limit on the number of questions.
Since there may be times when you can’t think of good questions, it might be helpful to have someone take on a supporting role to suggest questions.
