[For 4-year-olds] Enjoy February! A Collection of Craft Ideas

February is still chilly, but it’s full of fun events like Setsubun and Valentine’s Day! For 4-year-olds, this is a great time to enjoy fine-motor activities like wrapping yarn and weaving paper.

If you incorporate seasonally themed ideas—such as snowflake and heart ornaments or ogre-themed bean holders for Setsubun—the children’s eyes are sure to sparkle with excitement.

Here, we’ve gathered craft ideas perfect for 4-year-olds in February.

Kids can also experience the joy of displaying their finished pieces or giving them as gifts.

We hope you find these ideas helpful! Note: In this article, we use the term “production” (制作) to refer to children’s creations as finished works of art.

Mittens made by threading yarn

These are gloves you can make by threading yarn—perfect for kids to enjoy using their fine motor skills.

Cut colored construction paper into the shape of a glove, then punch holes along the edge with a hole punch.

After that, have fun threading yarn through the holes! Kids can explore by weaving through this hole and that one, imagining where to thread next.

Changing yarn colors partway through can make the piece even more unique.

It’s a great February craft for cold winter days, letting children work with their hands indoors—give it a try!

It looks like a demon is eating an ehomaki! I’ll show you how to make a perfect, super-cute Setsubun kendama.

First, trace the paper cup onto construction paper.

Cut about 1 cm inside the traced line.

Make small vertical slits along the inner line, then fold up along the line.

When attaching it to the paper cup with double-sided tape, apply the tape from the top side.

Attach the oni (demon) parts made from colored construction paper to match the template as well.

Next, put a flyer (scrap paper) inside a toilet paper roll cut to a size that fits into the paper cup.

Let’s attach the ehomaki parts.

Finally, tape a string to the back of the paper cup and to the ehomaki—and you’re done!

Setsubun wreath

🐶 @buchiko_hoiku ◂◂◂◂ Check out my other posts, too 🌼 Thank you so much for all the likes 🩷 This time! A Setsubun craft for toddlers 👹 Isn’t this tiger-pattern wreath so cute? 🫶🏻 I keep making wreath crafts 😂 I guess I really like making wreaths 🤭 lol The wreath doesn’t have to be yellow—make it unique with your favorite colors like pink or blue 🙆🏻‍♀️ Cutting out the oni and the god of fortune uses scissors, so it’s great practice for continuous cutting ✌🏻 At the end, think about the “oni” inside yourself that you want to chase away and write it on a strip of paper. It helps kids understand the meaning of Setsubun and join in without being scared of the oni ✊🏻 And!! This craft is also available as a kit for purchase 🌟 Craft kits saved me when I was actively teaching, so now I want to help teachers who are struggling! I make each one with that in mind ✂️ Links to Mercari and BASE are in my profile! I sell other crafts too, so I’d be happy if you take a look 👀 A follow would make me even happier 🥴💕 lol Please try making it yourself 🌈 I’d love to hear your “I made it!” reports—they really motivate me 🥹❤️‍🔥 Thank you for reading to the end 🐶 I share ideas you can easily copy from introduction to crafting ♬︎ Likes ♥, saves 𖤘, and follows 𖤐 would make me cry with joy 😂 lol Comments are also very welcome 🤍🤍Nursery teacher / Childcare workerKindergarten TeacherWinter Craft#Wall CreationToddler CraftsPlay that expands from picture booksSetsubun craft

The tiger pattern is super cute! Here’s how to make a demon wreath that’s perfect for Setsubun.

First, cut out the center of a paper plate and paint the rim yellow.

Next, tear black construction paper to look like the pattern on an oni’s pants.

Glue it onto the plate and trim off any parts that stick out.

Make any oni parts or other decorations you like from construction paper and glue them on.

Then, create a strip of paper sized to fit the hole in the middle of the plate, and write about the “oni” inside you that you want to drive away.

Attach a chenille stem (pipe cleaner) with cellophane tape, hang it from the plate, and you’re done! It’s also great practice for using scissors, so give it a try!

Strawberry cake made with paper cups

[Kindergarten/Preschool] Spring Craft / Easy / How to Make a Strawberry Cake ♡
Strawberry cake made with paper cups

The strawberries look so realistic and delicious.

Let me show you how to make a strawberry cake using a paper cup.

Get a paper cup, paint, tissue paper (hana-gami), crayons, red and green construction paper, and glue ready.

Use the paper cup as the cake base and paint it.

While the paint is drying, make the strawberries with the construction paper.

When drawing the center of the strawberries with crayons, I recommend coloring with pink first and then layering white crayon on top to add a three-dimensional effect.

Once you’ve glued the tissue paper onto the paper cup to look like whipped cream, stick the strawberries on top and you’re done.

It’s also fun to try different colors of tissue paper and paint.

Enjoy the feeling of skating! Here’s how to make an ice rink using paint.

First, paint light blue onto drawing paper.

Use plenty of water.

Crumple some plastic wrap, spread it out, and place it on top.

Once it dries, peel it off to reveal an ice-rink pattern.

Cut it into a circle to finish the rink.

Next, make the pieces to stick onto the rink.

Swipe to see how to make little figures, and try sticking embroidery thread onto the rink—it looks like skating tracks and is super cute.

Once your pieces are ready, glue everything onto the drawing paper and you’re done! We also recommend adding stickers in any empty spaces.
