Bolero IV New BreathOkamoto Tomotaka

Soprano singer Tomotaka Okamoto is strongly associated, for figure skating fans, with “Boléro,” the theme song used in broadcast coverage.
In fact, this “Boléro” has been renewed four times in the past, and the version used as the broadcast theme is the fourth one, sometimes written as “Boléro IV ~ New Breath.” It’s also memorable that Shoma Uno used it at the Beijing Olympics.
Since it’s an uplifting song meant to encourage those who feel like they might give up, knowing the lyrics might make it sound different to you.
GravityJohn Mayer

Shoma Uno, who has been performing brilliantly, including winning a silver medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, chose John Mayer’s “Gravity” for his short program in 2022.
John Mayer is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who is often counted among the top three contemporary guitarists.
“Gravity,” released as a single in 2006, reached No.
10 on Billboard’s Adult Top 40 chart.
It’s a 6/8-time ballad with a mature vibe, and the emotional guitar solo sounds great and is really cool.
To tomorrowMISIA

The song provided to Yuma Kagiyama for his first appearance at the 2022 Beijing Olympics was MISIA’s “Ashita e” (To Tomorrow).
It’s a track from her 2011 album “SOUL QUEST,” written as a support message for recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake.
In April 2011, a live version of “Ashita e” was also released as a digital exclusive.
MISIA’s powerful, heartfelt vocals make it an exquisite ballad that truly resonates.

In Praise of AutumnRaul Di Blasio

The piece used in Yuzuru Hanyu’s short program during the 2018–2019 season, when he achieved the highest score under the revised rules.
The composer, Mr.
Brasio, is from Argentina and began his studies with Latin music such as tango and bossa nova.
He is a globally popular composer and pianist, with achievements including instrumental hits across the United States.
This piece, “To Autumn,” blends a beautiful melody with Latin rhythms.
Elastic Heart feat. Shia LaBeouf & Maddie ZieglerSia

The piece Kaori Sakamoto used at the 2022 Japan Figure Skating Championships was “Elastic Heart feat.
Shia LaBeouf & Maddie Ziegler.” It’s a song by Australian singer Sia, created with The Weeknd and Diplo.
The lyrics compare the push-and-pull between a man and a woman to a battle, and it’s also known for its alluring contemporary dance.
Understanding the original song’s theme will deepen your appreciation of the skating performance.
Great SpiritArmin van Buuren vs Vini Vici

The music used by Shoma Uno for his short program in the 2019–2020 season.
Armin van Buuren is such a formidable artist that he’s regarded as a godlike figure in the EDM world—so much so that he’s often called a Dutch hero.
Uno’s costume incorporates a neon-colored EDM aesthetic, and combined with the catchy, cool music and performance, it makes for a program that’s pure fun to watch.
The GreatestSia

This is Sia’s “The Greatest,” which Rika Kihira used for her exhibition program on the 2019 Japan tour.
The song was created in response to the 2016 mass shooting at a gay nightclub in the United States, and its music video features 49 dancers, the same number as the victims.
Kihira said she wanted to use a dance track, and the song’s message—living as your best, most authentic self—somehow feels like a good fit for her disciplined, stoic image.
