This is Sia’s “The Greatest,” which Rika Kihira used for her exhibition program on the 2019 Japan tour.

The song was created in response to the 2016 mass shooting at a gay nightclub in the United States, and its music video features 49 dancers, the same number as the victims.

Kihira said she wanted to use a dance track, and the song’s message—living as your best, most authentic self—somehow feels like a good fit for her disciplined, stoic image.

This is Toshl’s “CRYSTAL MEMORIES,” which became a hot topic through his collaboration with Yuzuru Hanyu.

Toshl sang about an inner strength that overcomes any hardship, expressing it as a crystal.

Combined with Hanyu’s soulful, divinely beautiful skating, it became an unforgettable performance.

The pair of Yuna Nagaoka and Sumito Moriguchi clinched the title at the All-Japan Championships in their debut 2023–24 season.

The music here is what they used for their program at the ice show “Bloom On Ice 2024.” The original track is by Danzel, released in 1998, and this version uses Endor’s 2019 remix.

Drawing on the workout vibe suggested by the title “Pump It Up,” the choreography weaves in training-themed movements, resulting in a performance that’s both comical and powerful.

As a show program, it really conveys the fun in sync with the music.

HigherRihanna

In figure skating, classical and other traditional music is often used because it pairs well with the sport, but pop music is no exception.

Rihanna’s “Higher” is crafted with a classic sound reminiscent of 1960s soul music and is built throughout on an intensely passionate melody.

The combination of vocals so passionate they could melt the ice and the beautiful dance of figure skating is a perfect match.

Battle of DestinyJohn Williams

Since 2014, pop music has also been permitted for figure skating programs, but it still feels like classical music predominates, image-wise.

Even those who aren’t very interested in classical music often find themselves suddenly captivated when a familiar piece or a pop song comes on.

Many of you have probably heard the piece Duel of the Fates.

It’s one of the famous tracks from the movie Star Wars.

At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, France’s Adam Siao Him Fa used a remix of this piece together with the well-known Darth Vader theme, The Imperial March, for his short program.

The tense atmosphere that plays during battle scenes—those edge-of-your-seat moments—really makes your palms sweat, doesn’t it?

Violin Concertos “The Four Seasons,” Op. 8: Concerto No. 5 in F minor “Winter”Antonio Lucio Vivaldi

Antonio Vivaldi, a renowned composer of the Baroque era.

The Fifth Violin Concerto, “Winter,” from his celebrated work The Four Seasons, is a piece that expresses the cold winter season through the timbre of the violin.

Shoma Uno, who has excelled at the Olympics and World Championships and achieved four consecutive All-Japan Championship titles, used it during the 2017–2018 season.

The piece transitions from an opening that evokes a biting chill to a more expansive tone in the middle section.

Elegant yet bold in its final passages, it conjures the image of beautiful figure-skating performances.

Off To The RacesLana Del Rey

When people think of figure skating, many imagine elegant and gentle music.

However, “Off to the Races” subverts that image with a stylish, dark melody.

The singer is Lana Del Rey, who excels at songs with a moody, dark atmosphere, such as baroque pop and sadcore.

Although the track is dark and subdued, its powerful structure makes it an excellent match for ice dance and figure skating.
