Hip Hip Chin ChinClub des Belugas

The piece used in figure skater Keiji Tanaka’s program was “Hip Hip Chin Chin” by Club des Belugas, an electro club jazz group.
“Chin chin” is the call you make when clinking glasses for a toast.
It’s a dance track meant to get everyone in high spirits.
Riding the song’s lively rhythm, Tanaka nailed a cool triple Axel right off the bat.

Rock Me AmadeusFalco

These are the pieces Taisho Nishino, who has been making a mark from an early stage with results like at the All-Japan Junior Championships, used for his 2024 free skate.
They’re arrangements of Falco’s “Rock Me Amadeus,” but unlike the digital sound of the original, they’re arranged with a soft, orchestral feel.
Mainly built around piano and strings, they’re striking for the way they incorporate power and tension within a grand scale.
Precisely because it’s a distinctive instrumental arrangement with different instrumentation, the grandeur feels even more emphasized than in the original.
TurandotGiacomo Puccini

The piece used by Shizuka Arakawa when she won the gold medal at the 2006 Turin Olympics—where her “Ina Bauer” became a social phenomenon.
The song is also highly popular as a figure skating program choice, having been used by Yuna Kim for her final performance as an active competitor.
This Turandot is Puccini’s last opera, left unfinished.
It depicts the grand story of the beautiful yet cold princess Turandot and Prince Calaf of the Tartar kingdom coming together.

Dancing With Our Hands TiedTaylor Swift

When it comes to Taylor Swift, many people associate her with a poppy, catchy image because she started out in country music.
Of course, it’s true that many of her songs fit that mold, but there are exceptions.
One such exception is “Dancing With Our Hands Tied.” This track is categorized as synth-pop, a genre that has been trending since the 2020s.
Its stylish sound makes it an excellent match for figure skating.
Seven Nation ArmyThe White Stripes

It’s “Seven Nation Army” by the American rock group The White Stripes.
It’s a song every soccer fan knows.
Marin Honda, who usually gives a soft and cute impression, used it for her short program.
They say her performance was unusually powerful, and it makes sense when you hear this song.
Heaven and EarthTomita Isao

Speaking of Yuzuru Hanyu, it’s still fresh in our memories that he attempted a quadruple axel at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
The piece he used then was “Ten to Chi to” (Heaven and Earth).
It’s a composition by Isao Tomita, created as the theme song for a historical Taiga drama of the same name.
It begins with an intro that samples horse whinnies, then shifts into an atmosphere of tension evocative of the Warring States period.
In the latter half, the sound of the biwa is added, giving it an elegant finish.
This dramatic shift in musical tone may well be one of the reasons it was chosen.
