Let's Make and Display! Origami Perfect for Halloween

Halloween is a big hit in Japan too!

Many children probably have Halloween parties at home, daycare, or kindergarten.

In this article, we’ll introduce Halloween origami that’s perfect for party decorations!

We’ve gathered all kinds of designs like jack-o’-lanterns, ghosts, and witches—must-haves for Halloween.

It’s also a great activity to enjoy during the Halloween season!

Be sure to make them together with friends and family, and have a wonderful Halloween.

Let’s make and display! Origami perfect for Halloween (41–50)

Pumpkin box

Many origami creations are flat, but this pumpkin origami is three-dimensional and box-shaped—and the lid is cleverly shaped like a hat.

If you use orange origami paper, it becomes a pumpkin; if you use white, it becomes a ghost—so you can create various Halloween motifs just by changing the color of the paper.

You can also place small candies or trinkets inside the finished piece.

The pointy hat lid is adorable, too—try making it with black or purple origami paper and set it on top of the box!

bat

Here’s an origami bat that’s perfect for Halloween events at nurseries and kindergartens.

Display it together with pumpkins and ghosts to create a festive Halloween atmosphere.

Prepare black origami paper, then first fold it in half so a vertical crease is formed.

After making the crease, open the paper horizontally and fold it in half again.

Next, fold the paper back until the corner sticks out slightly, then fold the left and right corners toward the center corner.

Open the folded left and right sections to set the creases, then flip the piece over and fold back the top corner to finish.

Adding eye pieces is also a cute crafting idea.

plump pumpkin

In this article, we’ve introduced several three-dimensional pumpkin origami designs, but this “puffy pumpkin” is the one with a flat design among them.

It resembles the flat designs you often see on the internet.

Although it may look intricate, it’s actually less difficult than the other 3D pumpkin origami pieces.

There are relatively many folds, but the folding steps themselves are simple, so why not try making it together with your child?

Halloween paper fan

Why not try making a Halloween-themed paper fan, a classic decoration for parties? Divide a standard sheet of origami paper into four equal parts and use three pieces folded in an accordion style.

If dividing into quarters feels like too much work, you can save time by using smaller-sized origami paper.

Any steps involving scissors or a craft knife should always be done by an adult.

You can have the kids do the accordion folding, and let an adult assemble the pieces into a paper fan! Decorate them with Halloween motifs—orange for a jack-o’-lantern, black for a black cat or bat, and white for a mummy—to enjoy a festive look.

Just like a real bat! Here’s an idea for a flapping bat.

Bats are nocturnal and often rest during the day in caves, gaps in trees, or attics, but many children are familiar with them from Halloween illustrations and picture books.

This time, let’s make a flapping bat with origami.

All you need is origami paper cut to half size.

The steps are simple and easy to follow, so once kids learn the folds, they’ll likely be able to make one on their own!

While simple pumpkin shapes or paper crafts can create plenty of Halloween atmosphere, if you want a more authentic origami vibe, this pumpkin ghost with a hat is recommended.

It’s an origami project where you make the pumpkin part and the hat part separately, and since many of the folds are similar to those for a paper crane, elementary school children should be able to make it without any trouble.

In the video, they cut purple paper and place it on black origami to create the hat’s pattern, but using white origami and coloring it black and purple is also a great option.

Some of you may enjoy origami as a hobby.

For you, we recommend a Halloween-themed art frame made with origami! Since you’ll be making lots of small parts from paper, it takes a bit of time and effort, but the result is a stylish, beautiful piece—so give it a try.

Using two Halloween-colored papers, such as black and orange, fold lots of lilies.

Layer the two papers to create lily components, arrange them in a circle, and mount them in your favorite frame to finish! You can also crumple the paper first to add a distressed texture for an extra Halloween vibe.

Display it in your living room or entryway to boost the Halloween mood.
