A masterpiece with exhilarating high notes. An enchanting high-tone voice.

Even when we simply say “high-tone voice,” there are many ways to express it—from piercing high notes sung in chest voice, to a softer, more mature high tone that effectively uses mixed voice or falsetto.

In this topic, we’ve gathered a wide variety of songs that showcase the appeal of different high-tone voices, ranging from the latest trending tracks to timeless classics.

High-tone vocals are pleasant to listen to on their own, but once you can comfortably sing high notes yourself, you’ll discover even more ways to enjoy these songs.

We hope this can serve as practice material and a point of reference for those who want to learn how to sing in higher registers.

A masterpiece with exhilarating high notes. Enchanting high-tone vocals (181–190)

IllusionNOVELA

This song opens NOVELA’s debut album, Mukokugeki (Enchanted Theater), by the Japanese progressive hard rock band; the album was released in March 1980.

I first heard it when I was in my first year of junior high school, and above all, I was stunned by the unique high tone of vocalist Hisakatsu “Angie” Igarashi.

His voice is truly distinctive—neither quite falsetto nor exactly mixed voice—so listeners tend to be sharply divided in their preferences.

But if you like male high-tone vocals and haven’t experienced this one yet, I highly recommend it! In fact, about 25 years after the album’s release, I produced Angie’s solo album and contributed songs.

For that reason as well, this track holds a very special place in my heart.

A classic with delightful high notes. Enchanting high-tone vocals (191–200)

Pegasus FantasyNOB

The fourth single by the Japanese HR/HM band MAKE-UP, released in October 1986.

It was the first opening theme for the popular TV anime Saint Seiya.

The vocalist Nob (Nobuo Yamada) is well known for his singing ability.

In this song, he unleashes his distinctive, slightly husky, soulful, and robust high-tone voice without holding back.

Because he sings throughout with a solid, full-bodied tone supported by strong vocal production, listeners might not immediately notice it as a high-tone voice; however, many people are surprised by how high the key actually is when they try singing it themselves.

I think it’s a track that fully conveys the singer’s sheer intensity.

This is Official HIGE DANDism’s sixth CD single, released in September 2023.

It was issued as a double A-side single with ‘Nichijou’ (Everyday).

Vocalist Satoshi Fujihara is renowned for his high-tone voice, and in this song he showcases exceptional vocal expression—freely shifting between soft, high falsetto and powerful, high chest voice depending on the section.

It’s an ideal reference track for how to use high notes, so if you’re aiming to be a singer, I highly recommend listening closely and studying it.

It’s Official HIGE DANDism’s 10th digital-only single, released in April 2023.

It was reportedly written as the theme song for the TBS Friday drama “Pending Train — 8:23, Tomorrow With You.” Satoshi Fujihara, who serves as the vocalist for Official HIGE DANDism, is a singer known for his compelling, resonant voice rich with attractive higher overtones, and that vocal appeal is fully on display here as it meshes with the lively, medium-tempo track in a major key.

If you enjoy powerful male high-tone vocals, this is a song I highly recommend.

[Official] Uru “Kokoroe” Official Audio (Short ver.) — Theme song for Fuji TV’s Monday 9 p.m. drama “Kazama Kojin: Kyōjō 0”
guidelinesUru

This is Uru’s fifth digital-only single, released in May 2023.

It was selected as the theme song for Fuji TV’s Monday 9 p.m.

drama “Kazama Kimichika: Kyōjō 0.” Built on a symphonic backing track, it’s a beautiful ballad that lets you fully savor Uru’s very gentle yet powerful high-toned vocals.

Reproducing Uru’s singing in this track at karaoke is quite challenging for most people; it takes more than just being good at high notes.

Still, if you’re confident in your singing, it’s definitely a song worth attempting! Listen closely to the original for reference, and aim for a performance that is both strong and soft, maintaining clean, controlled tone even in the high passages.

This is YOASOBI’s 17th digital-only single, released in February 2023.

It was also used as the spring 2023 commercial song for Universal Studios Japan, so many of you may have heard it there.

In this track, the use of falsetto seems limited to just a fleeting high-pitched moment within the melody, but I believe that the brief touch of falsetto blending into a voice naturally rich in high overtones plays a very important role in creating contrast throughout the song.

The slightly inorganic treatment of the falsetto also works nicely.

This is a highly recommended piece for those who are good at falsetto as a karaoke pick or practice material.

It’s also an ideal track for studying how to use falsetto within a song.

Seventeen has also drawn attention as a collaboration between YOASOBI and Miyuki Miyabe.

It’s based on The Mismatched Cards, a suspense novel featuring a 17-year-old girl as the protagonist.

The song channels that dense story through a driving, fast-paced sound.

A key change is used in the scene where the protagonist gets caught up in the incident, perhaps symbolizing her stepping into a chaotic world.

There’s also another key change just before the final chorus.
