Yakiniku Shoen

Yakiniku Shoen is a yakiniku chain that was centered around Susukino in Hokkaido.

Although all of its locations closed once in the 2000s, it made a comeback in Susukino in 2021 under the management of the Taisei Group.

Its commercial, featuring two clown-like figures in masks dancing and repeatedly announcing a 50% discount, became widely known for its striking visuals.

With the revival of the restaurants, the commercial has returned as well, drawing renewed attention.

Reflecting the times, the “50% off” phrase—which was one factor in the closures—has been changed to “50% back.”

Noboribetsu Onsen Mahoroba

Hotel Mahoroba: “After all, it’s Mahoroba” Edition

Noboribetsu Onsen Hotel Mahoroba is a ryokan operated by Toho Resort that opened in 1994.

It is a facility that prominently features Noboribetsu Onsen, a specialty of Noboribetsu City in Hokkaido, and its major appeal lies in offering one of the largest numbers of baths in Noboribetsu along with several types of spring qualities to enjoy.

The TV commercial also focuses on the grand public baths; set to majestic music, it conveys just how large and magnificent Mahoroba’s hot springs are.

The hot springs have been selected for lists such as the “Top 250 Popular Onsen Ryokan” and the “Everyone’s Choice Onsen Awards,” and you can sense strong confidence in the hot springs from the commercial.

Doshin Sports

[Local Commercial] Hokkaido / 1991

This is a commercial for Doshin Sports, a Hokkaido sports newspaper launched in 1982.

Many people will recognize the ad featuring puppets made from newspaper moving around.

The song used in the commercial is also memorable, isn’t it? With upbeat lyrics, a refreshing vibe, and a catchy melody line, it’s the kind of tune many who heard it back in the day can still hum today.

In 2015, a second version of the song was produced, which also drew attention for featuring Hatsune Miku on vocals.

Moving Company Banban

Moving Company Banban

This is a commercial for Hikkoshiya Banban, a moving company that primarily operates in Hokkaido.

The humorous man featured in the ad is Fumiyuki Takada, who was active as a local Hokkaido TV personality.

Also known by the nickname Mr.

Daveman, he was one of Hokkaido’s original star talents.

Along with Takada’s lines, which give viewers a reassuring sense that they can leave everything about moving to the company, many people from Hokkaido will likely recognize the refreshing sound logo that plays at the end of the commercial.

When it comes to Hokkaido’s most popular gourmet foods, you can’t leave out jingisukan (grilled mutton).

Among them, Matsuo Jingisukan is a long-established restaurant founded in 1956, so popular that it has locations not only in Hokkaido but also in Tokyo.

Their heartwarming commercial features grilling lamb playing shiritori with words related to jingisukan.

The sizzling shots of lamb on the grill are sure to whet your appetite!

Ishiya Seika Shiroi Koibito “Happiness is made of Hokkaido’s white,” edition

Shiroi Koibito, manufactured and sold by Ishiya Seika, is widely known nationwide as a classic Hokkaido souvenir.

The history of parody products that have been sold also conveys its popularity and how much of a staple it is.

Inspired by the product name “Koibito” (lover), this commercial is presented as an animation with the theme of “happiness.”

Bear of the mountains

Sapporo Senshuan Yama-Oyaji Commercial (Old)

This is the commercial jingle for “Yama-Oyaji,” a Western-style rice cracker made with plenty of butter and milk and a specialty of Sapporo Senshuan Seika, a long-established confectioner with over 100 years of history.

“Yama-oyaji” originally refers to a brown bear, and the product features an embossed bear wearing skis.

The commercial first aired in 1960 and is a familiar local ad for people in Hokkaido.
