What’s inside the box?
It’s the “What’s in the box?” game where you only put your hand into a box and guess what’s inside.
You often see it on TV variety shows, right? Sometimes there are snakes or frogs inside… If you have cardboard and a box cutter, the box is easy to make—just cut out the openings.
The question is what to put inside.
Let’s prep something that will really hype things up!
Who am I?
Here’s an idea for a lively “Who am I?” game that everyone can enjoy.
First, choose one player to be the guesser.
Next, the questioner decides what to pretend to be.
The guesser then asks the questioner a series of questions to figure out what they’re pretending to be.
You can choose a historical figure or a fictional character, or even a food or a vehicle.
I hope everyone will work together and enjoy the process of gradually getting closer to the right answer.
Also, the questioner should try to give hints at a reasonable pace.
Tearing Championship
The “Tear-Off Championship” is a contest to see who can tear apart pull-apart bread the fastest.
Why not try competing with your friends at lunchtime? Even if it’s not pull-apart bread, you can set rules and try something like a “12-piece sliced bread championship” as long as everyone has the same type of bread.
Be sure to eat the bread so as not to waste food!
Photo guessing quiz
How about having everyone bring a childhood photo and enjoying a photo-matching quiz? Some people probably haven’t changed much, while others might look completely different from when they were little.
If childhood photos feel a bit embarrassing, baby photos are fine too.
It makes the game harder, but maybe even more fun.
You could also create multiple-choice options.
If you can match someone from their baby photo, that’s impressive! Try guessing from the eyes or the feel of their smile.
Cat & Chocolate
This is a game that uses commercially sold cards called Cat & Chocolate.
There are two types of prepared cards: item cards and event cards.
First, deal three item cards to each player, then in turn draw one event card each.
Players create and present a story that solves the situation written on the event card using their item cards.
The person with the best solution wins.
It has an improv-comedy vibe, and it’s a game that demands flexible thinking and persuasiveness.
Middle schoolers might even be stronger at it than adults!

Let’s use the hints to figure out the answer! Here’s an idea for a rearrangement game.
It’s a great recreation activity for breaks or free time! Once you’ve prepared five types of drinks with two bottles each (like plastic bottled drinks), you’re ready to go! It’s a simple game where you rearrange the drinks and guess the correct order.
The key is for each person to move one item per turn to work toward the correct arrangement.
It’s helpful if the caller can tell the players how many drinks are currently in the correct position.
It looks easy, but it really makes you think! You can also adapt it using stationery or other items instead of drinks.
Russian roulette
It’s a game where one different item is hidden among a bunch of similar-looking foods, and everyone has fun trying to guess who got the odd one out.
Test your luck, and also pay attention to how people react when they pick the “losing” piece.
Spicy or sour bites are classic choices for the odd one out, but if you’re good with those flavors, you might try to keep a straight face so others won’t notice.
You can also use this as a little fortune-telling game to see if you’re the type who tends to draw the short straw.
