Karaoke songs recommended for men with low voices or who are good at singing in a low register

In recent years, Japan’s music scene has seen an increase in songs with lots of high notes, influenced by K-pop.

As a result, it’s become harder for men with lower voices to find songs that suit them.

So! We’ve selected recommended tracks specifically for men with deep voices.

We also considered how well these songs go over at karaoke, so if you’re planning to go with a group soon, be sure to check them out.

Unrequited loveHamada Shogo

Unrequited Love (ON THE ROAD “FILMS”)
Unrequited loveHamada Shogo

A song by Shogo Hamada, it was first released on April 21, 1979 as the B-side to his sixth single, “Ai wo Nemurasete.” He has self-covered it several times since; the version I’m introducing here is included on Hamada’s own ballad self-cover album, Sand Castle.

It’s been arranged so you can fully enjoy one of Hamada’s charms—his slightly husky, low register—and I’d say it’s one of the best choices at karaoke for men who excel at that kind of rich, low tone.

As a vocal coach I wouldn’t normally recommend it, but the slightly tightened delivery of the high notes in the chorus also helps convey the song’s sense of poignancy.

By all means, try singing it with your own refined, deep voice—and make it even more heartrending than the original!

Voice of the Seaurashima tarō (kiritani kenta)

"The Voice of the Sea" Full ver. / Urashima Taro (Kenta Kiritani) [Official]
Voice of the Seaurashima tarō (kiritani kenta)

An original song created as the commercial jingle for the au Garaho “Voice of the Sea” CM, in which Urashima Taro (Ura-chan), played by Kenta Kiritani in the au Santaro series, sings.

The vocal melody in unison with the sanshin is particularly striking.

Kiritani’s singing sounds a bit like he’s belting from the throat, but since he’s not a professional singer, that’s understandable.

The upside is that it’s become a very singable song for men with low voices who aren’t used to singing regularly.

If you don’t try too hard to sound cool and sing it plainly, it should come out nicely.

Masaharu Fukuyama – milk tea (Fukuyama☆Summer Thanksgiving Festival: My Stadium Live Requests!! ~Let’s Do It Solo Acoustic~)
milk teaFukuyama Masaharu

It’s Masaharu Fukuyama’s 21st single in total, released on May 24, 2006.

Fukuyama is known for his moving vocals rich in low overtones, and this song is no exception—his voice shines in this acoustic slow ballad.

For a voice like his, an acoustic arrangement might be one of the best fits.

Now, if you’re singing this song at karaoke, there aren’t any particularly high notes throughout, so for those with lower voices, please sing gently and tenderly, as if whispering, with heartfelt emotion.

Your voice’s charm will surely come through to your friends!

cloudy skyDOES

DOES 'Donten' (TV Tokyo anime 'Gintama' opening theme)
cloudy skyDOES

This is the sixth single by the Japanese rock band DOES, released in June 2008.

It also served as the fifth opening theme for the TV Tokyo anime Gintama.

True to their style, which stands apart from many of today’s typical guitar rock bands with a rugged, heavyweight sound, the somewhat casually thrown vocal delivery is present in this track as well.

The song and vocals embody a style that’s the antithesis of “technical showmanship,” so the vocal range used is narrow and the melody is straightforward and easy to grasp.

It’s best to focus on projecting a cool vibe and sing it with a sense of confident swagger.

All Waiting For MeRYKEYDADDY.X

The other day, RYKEY finally got back out into the free world.

He’s changed his artist name to RYKEYDADDY.X and dropped several new tracks in a short span.

The standout that’s drawing the most attention is All Waiting For Me.

It’s a talk-style rap that’s direct yet lyrical, showcasing his rugged, deep-toned voice throughout.

The hook is built in a low register as well, so it’s highly recommended for those with low, raspy voices.

It’s love.V6

It was released in 1997 as V6’s fifth single.

Despite being their first single without a tie-in, it reached No.

1 on the Oricon Singles Chart in its release week.

The song also drew attention for being composed by Koji Tamaki.

It’s a bright and fun track that showcases V6’s close-knit vibe, making it easy to sing at karaoke.

Lightningsutoreitenaa

Because Atsushi Horie, the vocalist and guitarist of Straightener, has a relatively low vocal range, many of their songs are generally easy to sing.

This track, however, is sung in quite a low key as it deals with the sorrow of losing someone important.

Since the original recording layers multiple chorus parts, it’s best to enunciate clearly when singing it at karaoke.
