[Paper Tape] 3D Dandelion

Easy 3D paper dandelion craft (with voice-over)! How about making this spring flower around March or April? [Tsukuru-mon]
[Paper Tape] 3D Dandelion

Here’s an easy dandelion flower you can make with origami.

All you need are origami paper, scissors, and wood glue.

It’s perfect to make with children at daycare or kindergarten.

Creating the petals can be a bit intricate, so be sure to do that part together with a teacher or guardian.

For the petal colors, not only yellow but also layering bright colors like orange is recommended—it really sparks kids’ imaginations.

You’ll also make the leaves at the same time, so you’ll end up with a three-dimensional dandelion.

Let’s make it using tissue paper

How to Make a Dandelion Wall Display? A Preschool Teacher Explains Recommended Spring New-Term Crafts (For Ages 1–3)
Let's make it using tissue paper

Here’s a cute spring wall display featuring dandelions.

Prepare construction paper, tissue paper, round stickers, scissors, and glue to get started.

Cut a circle from construction paper, fold it three times to divide it into eight sections, then cut two triangular notches at the top.

When you open the paper, it will form a dandelion shape.

Make the fluff (seed head) the same way using a different color of construction paper.

Use green construction paper to create leaves and stems.

Glue the dandelion parts onto the base sheet.

For the ladybug, assemble all the parts and use round stickers to make the wing spots.

Changing the color of the round stickers would be cute too.

Crumple tissue paper into a small ball for the dandelion center, glue it on, and you’re done!

These dandelions have a voluminous look made with tissue paper.

By folding yellow tissue paper, making slits, and then spreading it open, you can create a soft appearance as if the flower has bloomed.

It’s also important to tie the center securely with a chenille stem (pipe cleaner).

Forming a firm center helps the dandelion’s round shape look more vibrant.

If you make a quarter-fold template out of copy paper, it will make folding the tissue paper smooth.

When making many, it’s recommended to prepare the template in advance.

Making dandelions with plastic raffia (suzuran tape)

Make dandelion crafts easy! How to create them in 3D (recommended for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old classes)
Making dandelions with plastic raffia (suzuran tape)

Here’s a craft project for making dandelions with yellow raffia tape.

Wrap the raffia tape around a piece of cardboard to give the dandelion volume.

About 10 wraps creates a nice, full dandelion.

Remove the tape from the cardboard, tie the center, and then split the strands while imagining the dandelion’s petals.

Stick the raffia tape together with double-sided tape, draw the leaves with crayons, and you’re done! It might also be fun to draw your favorite insects and flowers around it.

Dandelion and its fluffy seeds

Fold fine dandelion petals from origami paper, make slits, and then layer identical pieces.

By layering them, you get a three-dimensional decoration that pops out from the wall.

The seed head uses the same folding method up to a point.

You can express the difference by changing how you cut the slits.

Make four identical pieces and glue them together; since only the center area is the bonding surface, use a toothpick or similar tool to press firmly so it adheres well, then let it dry.

Using templates makes it easier to visualize shapes and to create them.

Here’s a dandelion made with templates.

Cut the dandelion petals and leaves along the template.

Crease the cut petals and leaves to give them a three-dimensional look.

When gluing all the parts together, attach them while checking the overall balance.

It’s also a great idea to make a spring insect—a butterfly—as an accent and let it “fly.” Adding patterns to the butterfly with round stickers might make it even cuter.

Speaking of dandelions, their blooming look is lovely, but their transformation into fluffy seed heads also gives off a spring vibe, doesn’t it? How about folding both the flower and the fluff together with origami? Even with the same folding method, using yellow paper makes it look like a flower, while white paper makes it look like fluff.

Look up how to fold the stem and leaves as well, and try combining them.

Their cute appearance is so soothing.

Also, there are folding methods that slightly adjust the structure for the flower and the fluff, so if you’re interested, check them out.
