Let’s make crafts with tissue paper! Here are some ideas for dandelions.

Dandelions are known for their yellow flowers that herald the arrival of spring, and their fluffy seeds that drift on the wind are so striking.

They are resilient and can grow just about anywhere, symbolizing hope, freedom, and harmony with nature.

Why not try making dandelion crafts, perfect for celebrating new school admissions or moving up a grade? These are craft ideas that infants can enjoy, and with a few tweaks, they’re suitable for preschoolers as well!

Papercut of a dandelion

Let’s make it with scissors! Here are some cut-paper dandelion ideas.

You’ll need yellow origami paper, glue or double-sided tape, scissors, and a compass.

Using the yellow origami paper, cut out three sizes of dandelions—large, medium, and small.

Layering the three sizes will give the petals a three-dimensional look and create a gorgeous finish.

If you also cut green origami paper to make the stem and leaves, it ties everything together beautifully.

Give it a try!

Dandelions in a wet-on-wet painting

Let’s use the wet-on-wet (bleeding) technique to create a familiar spring flower: the dandelion.

This technique uses water-based pens and water-resistant paper.

Shoji paper or coffee filters are recommended.

Cut the paper into a circle and draw patterns on it with pens in any colors you like.

When you’re done, mist it with water; the colors will gently bleed and spread.

Even if you scribble so the colors mix messily, the way they bleed and blend is beautiful and fun.

Attach a base for the dandelion flower and a stem, and you’re done.

Dandelion fluff made from raffia tape (Suzuran tape)

It looks like the fluffy seeds could float away! Here’s an idea for making dandelion fluff with raffia tape.

You’ll need white raffia tape, scissors, and vinyl tape.

After wrapping the raffia tape, bundle it together, split it finely with your fingertips, and secure it with vinyl tape—this simple method is the charm of the idea.

The more finely you split the tape, the fluffier it turns out, which is really fun! Be sure to try it for a spring craft project.

Dandelion sponge stamp

Here’s a dandelion craft made with a sponge stamp.

The process is the same as making a traditional tampo stamp, but since you use a sponge, it seems easy to make.

Wrap a sponge around the tip of a disposable chopstick and secure it with a rubber band—your stamp is ready.

Then stamp orange paint onto a yellow piece of construction paper cut into a dandelion shape, and it’s complete.

You can display it on the wall as is, or add a stem and leaves to make it look even more like a dandelion.

When infants are making it, wrapping the chopstick with colored tape or vinyl tape can make it safer to use!
