We hope not only those from Aichi, but local commercial fans nationwide will enjoy them.

Aoyagi Uirō

Aoyagi Uirō commercial

There are many commercials that sing the product name as a melody, and Aoyagi Uirō’s ad follows that pattern too.

The short phrase “aoyagi uirō” sung rhythmically in a child’s voice really shines with good taste.

It’s also fun that the singer is a character with a face drawn on a uirō, like the doodle ‘heno heno moheji,’ and a neat hidden detail is that the facial features are actually formed by the characters of the word “uirō.” Aoyagi Uirō has an elegant flavor that pairs well with tea, and it comes in a variety of flavors, so try it if you get the chance!

Life-Saving Tea

Nakanihon Pharmaceutical Katsu-Mei Tea

A commercial for KATSU MEICHA, sold by Chuhoku Yakuhin, a company in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture that handles pharmaceuticals and more.

With its catchy melody and the same lyrics repeated over and over, it really sticks in your head after just one listen! Seeing the kids playing energetically in the ad makes it obvious at a glance how good this tea is for your health.

Many people wonder what the phrase sung at the end of the song is saying, but the answer is actually an English sentence.

It ties in with the lyrics up to that point, so be sure to listen closely!

Misen

Taiwanese Restaurant “Misen”

Famous as a Nagoya specialty, Taiwanese ramen is a noodle dish that traces its roots to Taiwan’s danzai noodles and then evolved uniquely in Nagoya.

The restaurant regarded as the origin of Taiwanese ramen is Misen, a specialist in Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine.

The commercial also seems to spotlight dishes served at Misen, and the clear view of the cooking process really whets the appetite.

The deliciousness of Taiwanese cuisine is introduced in Japanese that sounds like how locals might speak—broken Japanese that could even be taken as stereotypical.

The fact that the commercial is complete with just the dishes and the restaurant’s name also conveys a strong dedication to the food.

Yamasa Chikuwa

Commercial: Yamasa Chikuwa

An animated sequence full of speed in which Yaji and Kita from the book Tokaidochu Hizakurige chase a chikuwa and hop on the Shinkansen.

That kind of direction leaves a strong impression in a commercial by Yamasa Chikuwa Co., Ltd.

of Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, famous for its chikuwa.

The company’s brand logo combines the katakana character “サ” with a line resembling the hiragana “へ,” which represents the shape of a mountain.

As part of PR for Toyohashi’s local specialties, this mark appears in many places, so it’s very familiar to people in Aichi!

Asahi Camera

Asahi Dō Camera Commercial Collection

If just hearing “Asahi Do Camera” immediately brings a melody to mind, you’re probably from the Aichi area, right? That’s how catchy the jingle is in the commercials for Asahi Do Camera Co., Ltd.

There are lots of unique versions, and the commercials have completely different vibes depending on the era! Personally, I can’t get enough of the version aired during special sales, where a squid sings the lyrics: “Iikana, iikana, ikanai kan, ikanai kana ikan!” (a punny chant roughly meaning “Should I go, should I go? I gotta go, I really gotta go!”) lol.

drifter

Furaibo TV commercial video

When it comes to deep-fried chicken wings, a hugely popular Nagoya local specialty, Furaibo is the name that comes to mind.

In this commercial, the story of how Furaibo’s fried chicken wings were created is narrated alongside footage of the wings being prepared.

If you’re from Aichi and love chicken wings, watching this CM will probably make you want to head to Furaibo, don’t you think?

Hotta ShojiNEW!

This is a commercial introducing Horita Trading, a Nagoya pawn shop that handles a wide range of buybacks, including brand-name bags and watches, as well as jewelry and accessories.

The visuals evoke the feel of Hanasaka Jiisan, with various products layered against a backdrop of blossoming cherry trees.

Smiles as the flowers bloom are a key element, clearly conveying that both sides are happy through the buyback process.
