Introducing Osaka Prefecture’s local commercials all at once. Including those catchy phrases you can’t help but hum along to (1–10)

Arctic Popsicle

Arctic Popsicle Commercial (1999)

Since the Showa era, Hokkyoku’s ice pops have been loved as one of Osaka’s specialties.

The cute animation of the penguin mascot and the familiar phrase “Minna daisuki” (“Everybody loves it”) are well known! It’s a simple commercial, but once you see it, it leaves a lasting impression.

Kani Dōraku

1985 Commercial - Kani Doraku - Hitachi

This is a commercial for Kani Doraku, whose flagship store is in Dotonbori and which has expanded to locations outside the Kansai region.

It’s memorable for showing lively, fresh crabs, and, toward the end, appetizing footage of crab hot pot.

The famous BGM is also known to have been composed by Taro Kida, nicknamed the “Mozart of Naniwa.”

Tako Sho

Take me with you~♪ Tako-sho commercial

Takomasa, known for selling frozen takoyaki as a classic Osaka souvenir, has one of the city’s most iconic local commercials.

The original jingle with the lyrics “Take me with you when you leave Osaka~” is memorable, and I think many people can sing it.

By the way, Takomasa doesn’t just offer frozen takoyaki for souvenirs—they also have shops where you can enjoy it freshly cooked.

Osaka Gas

DAY BY DAY surely a better tomorrow

Osaka Gas commercials have featured many star-studded casts over the years, especially from the Kansai region, but many people probably remember this illustrated-style ad as well.

It uses gentle, soft-touch illustrations by Masamichi Ito, and the background music features a song sung by Akiko Yano.

It’s a commercial that brings a calm feeling, reminiscent of the end of the day.

Kansai Electrical Safety Inspection Association

Kansai Electrical Safety Association commercial

This is a commercial by the Kansai Electrical Safety Association, known as a favorite Kansai-only ad among people from the Kansai region.

They’ve made a lot of different versions with various themes, and all of them are funny and memorable.

And at the end of each commercial, it wraps up with the sung line, “Kansai Denki Hōan Kyōkai.” It’s a classic Kansai thing that when you try to say “Kansai Denki Hōan Kyōkai,” you can’t help but sing it instead of saying it normally.

Sangaria

Junji Inagawa ~ Sangaria Commercial ~

The commercial for Sangaria, known for the song “Ichi-nii Sangaria, nii-nii Sangaria.” It’s a beverage maker headquartered in Osaka, and this particular ad features coffee.

The Sangaria jingle is also famous in the Kansai region, and many people there are likely familiar with it.

Tonkatsu KYK

The TV commercials for Tonkatsu KYK, which mainly operates in the Kansai area, are familiar to people in Osaka.

The image of a woman stretching out her arms and legs to form the letters KYK, the mouthwatering shots of tonkatsu, and the phrase “Tonkatsu, tonkatsu, KYK” are well-known.

That said, many people may have seen the commercial but, surprisingly, have never actually visited one of the restaurants.
