This is hopeless.Chosuke Ikariya

Drifters’ Big Laughter: “This is no good!”—A torrential 106 in a row!
This is hopeless. Chosuke Ikariya

It’s a gag by Ikariya Chosuke of The Drifters.

There’s probably no other gag that fits so perfectly as a closing catchphrase as this “Dame da, korya” (“Well, this is hopeless”).

Even people who aren’t good at doing gags could probably pull this one off! It’s a gag you can show off at school as soon as tomorrow.

ChaaKenji Tamura

Tamuken, a devoted/fond father
Chaa Tamura Kenji

This is a signature gag by Kenji Tamura, who is active mainly in the Kansai region on variety shows and the like.

It’s a simple bit where he puts on a cute-sounding voice and just says “chaa,” and a key point is that he holds that pose for a while.

It’s not the kind of gag with one-shot knock-out power, but if you guide the flow up to that point well, it neatly ties the talk together.

Precisely because it’s simple, the timing of the gag is easy for those around you to catch, so it’s a handy gag to use when you want to put a pause or paragraph in the conversation.

Since it’s sometimes treated as a gag that’s supposed to ‘bomb’ by default, it’s probably easier to adopt for people who won’t lose their cool even if the room goes quiet.

I got carried away.Yuriyan Retriever

Yuriyan Retriever - Comedy Bit: “Impression of an American”
I got carried away. Yuriyan Retriever

Yuriyan Retriever is a female comedian who’s full of surprises and will try anything.

She has a huge arsenal of gags, but what really stands out is her courage.

Even if a joke falls flat, she keeps having fun and never loses her smile—her positivity is something to learn from.

She skillfully uses her body type, timing, and storytelling to get laughs with her tricky gags.

It might be challenging, but why not try copying some of them?

It’s Osamu-chan!The Bonchi Bonchi Osamu

This is the self-introduction gag of Bonchi Osamu, the boke of the comedy duo The Bonchi, and it’s used as the opener for their manzai.

He belts out a loud “Osamu-chan desu!” and the sheer power, like he’s projecting all the way to the back of the room, is the charm.

The build-up to the self-intro is also a key point: by repeating the initial “O” sound, it heightens the audience’s anticipation about what phrase is going to pop out.

The contrast between the low, growling lead-in and the triumphant self-introduction creates surprise and laughter.

How long you keep repeating the growling phrase also matters—the longer you keep it going, the bigger the contrast you can create.

It’s fun to push it to the limit and see how far you can take it.

Komanecchi Beat Takeshi

Takeshi Kitano has recently been active as a film director and cultural figure.

Despite that calm demeanor, whenever Beat Takeshi appears on a comedy show, his explosive energy reminds you why he’s a true giant of the comedy world.

Many younger people might not know this, but Beat Takeshi originally played the funny-man (boke) in the manzai duo “Two Beat.” His “Komaneci” gag imitates Romanian gymnast Nadia Comăneci’s leotard pose.

It’s the ultimate one-shot gag, so save it for just the right moment! And whatever you do, don’t perform it in front of someone you like.

Heave-ho!Fusūya

[Nothing Too Much] With Foosuya × Real Account, they even did that bit! [Weekly Magazine]
Heave-ho! Fuusuuya

An owarai comedy duo, Fusuya, whose catchphrases “Nothing too much” and “Oh my Godfather descends” make absolutely no sense, yet their brisk pace makes you burst out laughing—and you get hooked on how good the words feel.

After the catchphrase, the two of them immediately chime in together with a “Yoisho!” You do get overwhelmed by the rapid-fire words and movements, but how about trying that yourselves? Let’s give it a shot with the expectation that even if you say things that make no sense, the vibe alone will get a laugh!

Only becomes foolish when it’s a multiple of 3 or contains the digit 3.Sekai no Nabeatsu

This is the gag by Sekai no Nabeatsu where he acts silly only on multiples of 3 or numbers that contain 3.

It was hugely popular with elementary school kids for a while, and everyone used to imitate it when counting things at events like the ball-toss game at sports festivals.

This video is the Spanish version.

It would probably go over well to do versions in various languages like English and Chinese!
