hydrangea

When it comes to flowers that take center stage during the rainy season, hydrangeas come to mind.

Their beautiful hues—purple, magenta, white—can lift your spirits even in the damp and dreary weather.

Let’s try expressing each hydrangea blossom with torn-paper collage! If you treat each cluster as a single flower, gather several roughly torn pieces, and round them into shape, it will look like a hydrangea.

Using papers in a variety of colors rather than a single shade is the key to creating a piece with depth and character.

If you’re doing this as a recreational activity at a senior facility, preparing postcards or shikishi boards with a preliminary sketch will make it easy for seniors to participate.

Shoo Away Game

Shoo Away Game

Recreation activities at senior facilities can be a lot of work to prepare, right? For those in that situation, I recommend the “Get Outta Here” game—easy to set up and great for getting everyone excited.

All you need are newspaper and tape.

Roll up a newspaper into a stick as-is, and crumple up plenty of balls.

Once you mark out territories on the floor with tape, you’re ready to go.

On “Ready, go!” start the game and use the newspaper sticks to push the balls into the other team’s territory.

The situation changes every second, so cheering gets heated too.

If bending down is difficult, you can set up the territories on tables to keep it safe.

Arunashi quiz

Brain Teasers: “Exists/Doesn’t Exist” Quiz 39 – Cognitive Training Activity for Seniors!
Arunashi quiz

It’s a game where you’re shown words divided into two groups—“has” and “doesn’t have”—and you have to figure out what they have in common.

The tricky part is that the shared feature can take many forms, such as something that appears when you add a word before or after, or a property hidden within the word itself.

The breadth of possible commonalities makes it challenging, but it also stimulates the brain by encouraging diverse approaches.

Since that same breadth can make it hard, let’s provide hints gradually to help guide the thinking process.

If you try reading the words out loud, you might notice something that brings you closer to the answer.

Strawberry Quiz

When it comes to fruits that evoke spring, strawberries come to mind.

These days you can find them in supermarkets even in winter, but strawberries are originally in season in spring.

Because they’re sweet and often used in desserts, some older adults may be fond of them as well.

A quiz about strawberries—an iconic spring fruit that’s familiar to older adults—would likely get everyone excited.

Through the quiz, you’ll also have the chance to learn surprising facts about strawberries.

It can be a fun way for older adults to discover things they didn’t know about strawberries.

Enjoy a delightful time with a strawberry quiz!

How about trying the sure-to-be-exciting “Rolling Rice Ball Game”? Attach yarn to a paper plate and make rice balls and obstacles.

Place the rice balls you made on the paper plate and start the game! Reel in the yarn, and if you can bring the rice ball all the way to you without dropping it, you succeed.

There are obstacles made from plastic wrap or construction paper along the way, so be careful not to let it fall! The winner is decided both by speed and by how many rice balls you can transport without dropping them.

It’s a recreation activity that gets not only the older adults pulling the string excited, but also everyone watching around them.

Please feel free to use this as a reference!

beanbags

The kind you often see on variety shows #shorts
beanbags

Beanbags used in various games can feel subtly different depending on the fabric and the filling.

How about testing whether you can accurately identify them under such varying conditions? Because it’s something we casually use, you might find yourself picturing it but unable to recall its name.

It’s also fun to mix beanbags of different weights and textures on purpose, so the differences in feel make people hesitate over their answers.

Beanbag Tower

Senior recreation! Everyone’s hooked! Beanbag tower!! #shorts #seniorRecreation #dayService #recreation #heartwarming #hilarious #beanbag
Beanbag Tower

Many older adults may have played with beanbags when they were young.

Some may have also played beanbag games with their own children or grandchildren.

Here’s a game that uses those beanbags to build a tower.

The rules are simple: compete to see how many beanbags you can stack on top of an upside-down paper cup.

By holding and stacking the beanbags, you can expect to improve or maintain fine motor balance and concentration.

You can focus and play on your own, or make it a team competition for extra excitement.

If you like, please give it a try.
