Paper-cut dandelion

[Origami] Dandelion / Paper-cut Flowers 65 🌼 Dandelion Origami
Paper-cut dandelion

Let’s make a pop-up-style paper-cut dandelion.

Prepare three sheets of origami in different sizes.

Fold each sheet in half into a square twice, then into a triangle; open it, and fold both sides toward the center crease.

Fold all three sheets the same way.

Draw guide lines and cut along them.

Use the largest cut dandelion as the base, apply double-sided tape to the center, and layer the pieces in order from largest to smallest.

Make the leaves and stem from green origami—sketch them first, and be sure to cut the leaves with a jagged edge.

Attach the dandelion, stem, and leaves together to finish.

Spring flowers made with blow painting

Blow painting with straws! Spring craft flower drawings
Spring flowers made with blow painting

We’ll introduce a spring-themed craft using blow painting to create spring flowers.

Prepare drawing paper, crayons, paint, brushes, and water.

Draw the leaves and stems of the flowers on the paper, and decide where the flowers will go.

Drop some paint for the flower color slightly above the crayon-drawn stems, then blow through a straw to spread the paint.

The paint will scatter around, forming petal-like shapes and delightful, unexpected patterns.

When blowing through the straw, keep it a little distance from the paint and blow with some force—this is the key.

Give this a try for your spring art project!

Using templates makes it easier to visualize shapes and to create them.

Here’s a dandelion made with templates.

Cut the dandelion petals and leaves along the template.

Crease the cut petals and leaves to give them a three-dimensional look.

When gluing all the parts together, attach them while checking the overall balance.

It’s also a great idea to make a spring insect—a butterfly—as an accent and let it “fly.” Adding patterns to the butterfly with round stickers might make it even cuter.

A mobile made with your favorite characters

Why not decorate the room with your children’s favorite characters? You can use characters from anime or games as materials, or—if characters aren’t allowed at your school—use animals or picture books they love instead! Once you’ve chosen the materials, print them out on a computer.

Also print one reversed copy so you can glue the front and back together.

Laminate the finished pieces and cut them out, then punch holes so you can attach strings.

Try decorating them like a mobile, using branches the children found in the yard or during outdoor activities.

Swaying gently in the pleasant spring breeze, they’ll look absolutely lovely.

small bird

small bird

Did you know that May 10–16 is Bird Week every year? It’s also called Bird Week (Birdweek) and aims to raise interest in wild birds and the natural environment and to spread knowledge.

In honor of Bird Week, how about making a cute little bird out of colored construction paper? Cut the colored paper into long, thin strips, glue one end, and roll it up from the glued end.

To create a pleasing color gradient and make the center of the circle the bird’s eye, place a black strip at the edge and use other strips in similar hues to add contrast.

For the body, curl the paper around a pencil to give it a rounded curve and shape it to resemble a small bird.

Reusable and delightful! Here’s an idea for making a fabric garland.

You’ll need a 30 cm-long piece of fabric, yarn or jute twine, and scissors.

You can use leftover fabric from home or school, too! First, cut the fabric into long strips about 2 cm wide.

Next, take three of the cut strips and tie them onto the yarn or jute twine.

Finally, trim the length and snip off any loose threads, and you’re done.

This is a great idea when you want to make a cute garland with a natural vibe!
