Brass In PocketPretenders

The Pretenders are a rock band formed in 1978.
Before joining the band, vocalist Chrissie Hynde had an unusual background: she worked at a clothing shop run by Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren when they were still unknown, and also wrote for the music magazine NME.
The band drew attention with their 1979 release of a cover of The Kinks’ “Stop Your Sobbing,” and they have continued to perform actively to this day.
In 2005, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
That’s Not My NameThe Ting Tings

A male-female two-piece band.
A song from their debut era.
The female vocals over the simple sound feel fresh, and it gives the impression that the instruments can be heard more distinctly.
I also appreciate how their style evolves over time, reflecting a strong spirit of musical exploration.
Standing In The Way Of ControlGossip

A song Beth Ditto wrote in response to the U.S.
government’s stance on same-sex marriage during President George W.
Bush’s administration.
Its theme is encouraging people who felt powerless.
The track was used in a trailer for the British teen drama Skins and subsequently became its “unofficial” theme song.
Sweet, Sweet BabyLone Justice

Lone Justice disbanded after just two years from their debut.
They were a quintessential American band with a dry, textured feel.
The vocalist, Maria McKee, went solo and continues to follow the classic path of American rock.
CannonballThe Breeders

The Breeders began as a side project of Kim Deal, who was active with the Pixies at the time.
This song was originally titled “Grunggae,” a combination of “grunge” and “reggae.” It was chosen as the Single of the Year for 1993 by the UK’s Melody Maker.
