Looping Through the Night – Chiahi Sato

Let me introduce a cute lantern you can make with disposable chopsticks—fun to display and enjoy.

Prepare chopsticks, glue, and washi paper.

Cut the chopsticks and build the lantern’s frame.

The key is to keep an eye on the balance so the frame doesn’t shift out of place.

Attach washi paper from the back to create the lantern’s window sections.

Finally, glue the frames together to finish.

It’s also recommended to use your favorite colors for the window sections.

The light that leaks through the gaps between the chopsticks looks absolutely beautiful.

Let’s make a super ball

Simple Craft: Let's Make a Super Ball! #MakeASuperBall #ElementarySchoolExperiment #shorts
Let's make a super ball

Did you know you can make a super ball yourself? You’ll need PVA laundry glue, salt, and food coloring or paint.

First, dissolve 40 g of salt in water and add color, then pour the saltwater into the glue and stir with a chopstick.

You’ll see a gooey mass start to form around the chopstick.

Gather it up and blot the moisture with a paper towel, and you’ll have an easy homemade super ball.

Depending on the batch, some bounce very well and others less so, but try adding your favorite colors and make all kinds of super balls!

Wind chime made of handmade paper

[100-yen DIY] Wind chimes made of paper 🎐
Wind chime made of handmade paper

A wind chime made of washi paper that brings a cool look.

First, inflate a balloon from a 100-yen shop, let out a little air, and tie the end.

Then paste on pieces of torn washi and sukigami using glue diluted with water.

Start with the washi, then layer the sukigami on top, overlapping them little by little.

Leave a large opening around the tied end, brush glue over the entire surface at the end, and let it dry.

Once the washi is thoroughly dry, pop the balloon with a needle and remove it to get the shade.

Make a hole at the top of the shade, thread a string with washi and a bell attached, and it’s done!

perpetual calendar

Let’s make an economical, innovative perpetual calendar so you won’t need to buy a new calendar every year! Use five cube-shaped wooden blocks from a 100-yen shop.

Prepare paint in your favorite color, number and alphabet stickers, and glue.

Paint the blocks in your chosen color, and once they’re dry, add numbers for the date and letters for the day of the week.

Since sticker adhesive alone can be weak, apply glue before placing the stickers.

Instead of stickers, you can also use stencils or write directly on the blocks.

It would make a great gift, too.

Shaka-shaka accessory pouch

Just looking at it is soothing! Here are some ideas for a “shaka-shaka” trinket case.

Some kids might want to make their own favorite cute container.

This time, let’s make a shaka-shaka trinket case using materials you can find at a 100-yen shop.

You’ll need a clear round gift box, beads and charms, tape, and washi tape.

Put the beads and charms into the lid of the gift box, then secure it to the bottom part of the container with tape—and you’re done! Adding decorative washi tape to the container itself will make it even more festive.
