Why not make a hairstyling box using a large empty box, felt, and yarn? It’s a great craft for kids who love tying or braiding doll hair.

First, cut out parts like the face, eyes, and mouth from felt, and stick them onto the box lid.

As if making a pom-pom, wrap yarn around cardboard, tie it at one point, then cut the looped ends.

Punch holes in the top of the face area on the box, thread the tied yarn through, and attach the “hair” around the face.

Make the side sections and bangs separately.

Also, secure the side hair at the upper left and right sides of the face.

Finally, decorate as you like with ribbons and more, and you’re done! Use the yarn as hair and enjoy styling it.

Matryoshka

[Summer Vacation Craft Showcase 1] Matryoshka-chan (A third-grade student's work)
Matryoshka

The craft of painting your own face and those of your family onto a matryoshka doll—where new companions appear one after another inside a small doll—overflows with the joy and warmth of imagination.

Start by applying a base color with acrylic paint to the surface of the wooden nesting dolls.

Once it’s dry, carefully paint expressive characters such as your self-portrait, family, or friends.

After the paint dries, add a coat of varnish to give it a sheen and significantly elevate the finish.

Each time you open it, a new face appears, making it a delight for viewers.

It also makes a perfect gift, and the key is to create it while thinking of someone special.

It’s a lovely art project that lets you feel the connection between craftsmanship and the heart.

Next, glue on finely cut pieces of yarn.

For the feet, wrap the yarn around and around.

For the eyes, cut black shrink plastic into oval shapes; for the cheeks, paint ovals in pink on translucent shrink plastic and bake them.

shaved ice

"Shaved Ice" made with gel mats: Make it using Daiso's 'seismic (anti-slip) mats' and either 'transparent origami paper' or 'glass paint'
shaved ice

Seismic gel pads turned into shaved ice! Speaking of seismic gel pads, they’re items you place to prevent furniture from shifting during earthquakes, but if you finely chop them and pack them into a cup, you can make a craft that looks just like shaved ice! By sticking glitter or transparent decorative paper onto the adhesive side, or coloring them directly with paint, they transform into shaved ice in all sorts of “flavors.” If you use the type of gel pad that goes between furniture and the floor, it already has adhesive, so you can easily pile it up into a fluffy mound.

It’s a perfect, refreshing craft for summer—give it a try!

Melon cream soda

Easy craft with 100-yen store materials: How to make melon cream soda. Perfect for summer vacation independent study or free craft projects. Requires few materials and is fun to make. Simple handmade 100-yen DIY for at-home time; homemade craft.
Melon cream soda

Let’s make a realistic-looking melon soda that will make you want to drink a real cream soda! You’ll need jelly-like clay, a plastic cup, crushed stones, soft and easy-to-mold angel clay, an artificial cherry, a straw, and more.

First, pipe the jelly into the cup, then sink the crushed stones into the jelly to act as ice.

Insert the straw, cover the jelly clay with angel clay so it’s hidden, and place a scoop-shaped piece of clay on top to resemble ice cream.

Finally, glue the cherry on top with a hot glue gun, and you’re done!
