Let's make flowers bloom on a withered tree.

This is a game where branches spread out from a large tree, and the goal is to color them as if flowers were blooming.

Plates marked with points are placed on the branches extending from the tree motif, and players throw softly cloth-wrapped beanbags toward them.

Everyone aims for high scores, but another highlight is how, as the game progresses, the branches start to look like they’re blooming with flowers.

The farther the target, the more the game trains your concentration and throwing strength.

Slipper Toss

While seated in a chair, you put a slipper on one foot and, at a signal, kick it off with force to see how far it flies—competing for distance.

Because the goal is to send the slipper as far as possible, this game helps train body movement and instantaneous leg power.

Using a chair with armrests is recommended: slightly lifting your hips makes it easier to launch the slipper, and you can also work your arm strength.

Since your posture becomes unstable when you kick the slipper, it’s important to stand by and firmly hold the chair to keep the game both safe and exciting.

Here’s a dice game you can enjoy using items from a 100-yen shop.

All you need are a die, some balls, and three baskets.

Put the balls into one of the baskets, then place one basket for yourself and one for your opponent—now you’re ready! Take turns rolling the die and move the number of balls shown into your own basket.

Continue until there are no balls left.

The player with the most balls at the end wins.

Because luck plays a big role, differences in ability are minimized, so anyone can enjoy it.

Rolling the die and picking up the balls also serve as upper-limb functional training, and counting the numbers can provide cognitive training benefits.

Let’s train our legs while having fun with a beanbag game.

Pair up and sit facing each other.

One person throws a beanbag so that it reaches the other person’s feet.

The other person blocks the incoming beanbag with their feet.

Each chair has a designated territory around it, and the person who gets more beanbags into the opponent’s territory wins.

Because you use your feet to block the beanbags, you can train your legs while seated.

Successfully blocking will make older adults feel happy, too.

It also creates opportunities to chat with those around you, which can lead to more social interaction.

A recreation activity where everyone sits on chairs, forms a circle, and tosses a ball to each other.

And because a rubber ball is used, it’s safe as well.

As for how to throw, you can pass it with a one-bounce method, which builds strength by bouncing the ball off the ground.

It’s also exciting to fake a throw to add a bit of feinting and liven things up.

In pairs, you will perform two movements: trying to pull out a fixed ball and passing the ball to each other.

By carefully observing your partner’s movements, this exercise also helps you become more aware of dynamic vision, concentration, and force control.

Tamaire, the beanbag toss often played at school sports days, is a real crowd-pleaser.

Try adjusting it so that older adults can enjoy it too.

Have the participants sit on chairs and form a circle with a basket placed in the center.

They’ll aim for the basket and toss in beanbags or balls.

Splitting into two teams for a head-to-head match will make it even more exciting.

You can also enjoy a variation where several baskets are placed on a table and players throw balls into them—great for solo play as well.

If you attach papers with point values to the baskets, it adds a fun, game-like element.
