Overwhelming vocal power, delicate expressiveness, and the ability to steer the listener’s emotions at will.

In this article, we’ll introduce male singers whose voices are so compelling they give you goosebumps.

You’re sure to discover a new favorite artist who resonates deeply with your heart.

Skilled Male Singers with Great Vocals: Powerful, Technical, and Expressive Performers (91–100)

I Will Get Your KissNakagawa Akinori

Singer-songwriter Akinori Nakagawa is known for his strikingly high vocal tone and sharply defined vocal embellishments.

He is currently active as a musical theater actor as well, and his exceptional singing ability is highly regarded within the musical theater world.

Speaking of Akinori Nakagawa’s signature songs… surely many people think of “I Will Get Your Kiss,” don’t they? While retaining a touch of Japanese pop sensibility, the track weaves in authentic R&B elements, resulting in an exceptionally sweet finish.

If anything, Masaki Suda seems more like an actor by trade, but his vocal ability is quite impressive.

His vocal production—chest voice, mixed voice, and falsetto—connects very smoothly, and his expressiveness is notably high.

There are certainly aspects that feel unpolished, likely stemming from his youth and limited experience as a singer, but that roughness may actually be part of his charm.

He’s one of the singers whose growth from here on out I’m excited to see.

I believe his fundamental vocal technique is more than solid.

Even if you went and became somebody’s damn girlfriendKimyō Reitarō (Tensai Bando)

The vocalist of Tensai Band, Kimyo Reitaro, is, just as the band’s name suggests, a remarkable artist and performer blessed with heavenly talent.

I don’t know any other singing voice that speaks to the heart this profoundly.

That miraculous voice is also familiar from commercials.

Niigata BluesMikawa Ken’ichi

Compared to songs like “Yanase Blues” and “The Scorpio Woman,” this one may be less widely known to the general public, but it was a hit.

As expected, quiet, darker songs like this suit Mikawa-san.

Above all, that low voice is captivating.

It’s easy to see why people said Koshiji Fubuki’s voice was suited to chanson.

In addition to his own work as an artist, Kadomatsu is also involved in producing a variety of other artists.

He’s reputed in the industry for being strict during vocal recording sessions.

Not only does he demand precise pitch, but he’s also completely uncompromising about vocal expression.

He can demonstrate all of these rigorous requirements himself with his own singing, which really shows how high his potential is as a vocalist.

As a fellow producer, I can’t help but be quite envious of that (laughs).

In the song I’m introducing this time as well, he handles everything with ease—from the verses, which feel like a quiet conversation, to the chorus, where his open, soaring high notes are so satisfying.

R&B, which had been waning since the late 1990s, has recently begun attracting attention again.

From that revitalized R&B scene, a highly skilled vocal group I’d like to recommend is Meteor, who sing “Take It Slow.” They’re a three-member vocal group, and every member boasts exceptional singing ability.

Their authentic, classic R&B sound is one of their charms, but what shines most is their three-part chorus work that weaves in high-difficulty ad-libs.

Their overwhelming harmonies, reminiscent of Boyz II Men, are undoubtedly among the very best of any Japanese R&B group.

Singer-songwriter Taichi Mukai.

While basing his music on his roots in R&B, he has a strong reputation for songwriting and sound design that incorporate elements from various genres such as electronica and ambient.

His vocals are supported by a style centered on the middle voice—a technique that has practically become a must for singers in this genre.

To put it very simply, this middle voice is a blend of falsetto and chest voice (often called “mixed voice”), and by skillfully adjusting the ratio of chest and falsetto components, it enables a very colorful vocal expression.

Maintaining that balance requires the kind of sensitivity you’d need to walk a tightrope, and in Mukai’s singing you can really sense both his fine-tuned balance and his keen sense of when and how to use his voice.

He’s the kind of singer who makes you want to listen to even more of his songs!
