Have you ever found yourself thinking, “Why does this person’s singing move me so much?” Male vocalists who sing well possess a charm that can’t be explained by technique alone.

Overwhelming vocal power, delicate expressiveness, and the ability to steer the listener’s emotions at will.

In this article, we’ll introduce male singers whose voices are so compelling they give you goosebumps.

You’re sure to discover a new favorite artist who resonates deeply with your heart.

Male singers with great vocal skills: powerful, technically adept, and expressive performers (51–60)

The sun is burning.Yoshii Kazuya (THE YELLOW MONKEY)

Kazuya Yoshii, the vocalist of THE YELLOW MONKEY, has a rich, deep voice and the ability to cover a wide vocal range with a consistently steady pitch.

One of his charms is how he can change his vocal expression to suit the lyrics and melodies.

The raw power of his live performances is incredible, too!

SubaruTanimura Shinji

[Shinji Tanimura “Subaru”] Recital 2023 “THE SINGER” to be held on Friday, April 14, at Aichi Prefectural Arts Theater, Large Hall!
SubaruTanimura Shinji

Released on April 1, 1980, this song was a solo release by Shinji Tanimura of Alice, a folk/new music group that could rightly be called Japan’s most popular act at the time.

Back in 1980, unlike today, there wasn’t yet technology to correct vocals with pitch adjustment and the like.

That’s why the vocals of singers active since that era still feel overwhelming even now.

Of course, Shinji Tanimura is one of them, and in the video we’re introducing here, he delivers a wonderfully mature, seasoned voice.

Some vocal expressions may sound a bit old-fashioned to modern ears, but he’s the kind of singer whose sheer ability makes that completely irrelevant.

In the Great Sky and on the Vast EarthMatsuyama Chiharu

Chiharu Matsuyama may have a slightly tough-looking demeanor, but his singing voice, like the title of this song, soars up to the open sky and is as gentle as the earth, drawing listeners in.

His technique of holding off on vibrato when sustaining notes and then adding it only near the very end of the phrase is also remarkable.

Although Kiyoshi Hikawa is generally categorized as an enka singer, the genres he covers now range widely—from comic songs to rock with a visual-kei flair.

Still, what underpins his versatile vocals is the solid foundational technique honed through enka and akin to folk-singing projection, which comes across clearly in any of his performances.

Notably, his vocal pitch is remarkably stable—worthy of special mention—suggesting he relies very little on pitch correction, not only live but likely even in studio recordings.

He’s the kind of singer you enjoy following just to see what angle he’ll take on next.

Yes, I doYonekura Toshinori

This was Toshinori Yonekura’s 14th single, released in July 1997.

It features a very lively, brass rock-style sound, crafted so that Yonekura—who has advanced vocal skills and uses his middle voice to falsetto effectively—can shine to the fullest.

The track also carries elements of Black music, and the way he delivers Japanese lyrics without losing the groove is another remarkable aspect of his singing.

I believe he deserves much more recognition as a singer.

He’s now practically the poster child for singers who are genuinely good at singing.

He originally appeared on ASAYAN (the audition TV show that produced CHEMISTRY) and was recognized for his vocal ability even back then.

I think his whisper-infused singing style helped pioneer today’s trend.

This is RADWIMPS’ sixth digital-only single, released on April 5, 2021.

The song is a beautiful slow ballad, and within it, vocalist Yojiro Noda delivers a wonderfully dramatic performance, ranging from gentle, whisper-like soft singing to a very powerful chorus.

He skillfully switches among chest voice, mixed voice, and falsetto, depending on the expressive demands of the piece.

I think it’s also extremely useful as a reference track for singing rock ballads, so if you’re an aspiring male singer, be sure to study Noda’s vocal approach on this song.
