Hailing from Scarsdale, New York, Kousuke Saito is the guitarist-vocalist of UNISON SQUARE GARDEN.

Their signature songs include “Trace of Orion (Orion wo Nazoru)” and “Sugar Song and Bitter Step.” On the official UNISON site, his vocals are described as “overflowing with transparency yet possessing a distinctive edge.” In fact, Saito underwent vocal cord polyp surgery in 2014, and it’s said that it helped improve the stability of his high notes.

His singing is cool and sleek, with a truly beautiful extension into high registers that can be challenging even for many female singers.

As a singing guitarist, his performance level is outstanding—he plays highly complex guitar phrases while singing, delivering a wall of sound you wouldn’t expect from a three-piece band.

He also collaborated with Leo Ieiri in 2025, and their vocals were absolutely overwhelming.

FLOW – Sign / THE FIRST TAKE
SignKOHSHI(FLOW)

FLOW, globally popular for anime theme songs like “GO!!!,” “COLORS,” and “DAYS,” is a central presence as a “border-crossing live band” that has performed in 19 countries overseas.

KOHSHI, the twin vocalist known for his sunglasses, balances excellently with KEIGO, who sings the main melody.

He plays a very important role by providing lower harmonies, delivering rap-like rhythms, and adding momentum in the chorus.

When I first listened to FLOW, I thought KOHSHI’s voice was so cool and manly—‘If I could sing with a voice like that, it would be awesome!’ I also went to the 2024 FLOW theme-song live event “Anison Festival,” and their voices were truly straight and unwavering, just like a studio recording! I’ve come to love FLOW’s character as people too, so if you like anime songs, I definitely recommend going to their live shows.

We are!kitadani hiroshi

Hiroshi Kitadani, commonly known as “Dani.” He made his major debut in 1994 with the rock unit Stagger, and in 1999 he broke into national fame as an anisong singer with “We Are!” the first opening theme for ONE PIECE.

He has also performed on stages around the world as a second-generation member of JAM Project, a group of powerhouse anisong vocalists, continually delivering overwhelming live performances.

Dani’s defining traits are his tremendous vocal power and rock energy! Especially in live settings, his stage presence, crowd work, and vocal stamina are truly top-tier among professionals, so it’s absolutely better to hear him live than on CD! I became a fan of Dani after seeing a JAM Project concert, so please check out some live videos!

He made his major debut in 1999 with “Apollo” as the vocalist of Porno Graffitti.

Renowned as one of Japan’s foremost “masters of vocal expression,” he commands a wide range of genres including J-pop, rock, and Latin.

Watching Okano on THE FIRST TAKE or in live videos makes it clear: this is what people mean by “studio-quality straight from the mic.” First off, the band is highly regarded as a live act—no rushing the tempo, never looking strained, his voice never wavers to the very end—his stability is extraordinary.

His MCs are gentle, his singing is fiery; that contrast captivates fans, and his stage presence embodies the “ideal form of a vocalist.” He can convey heartbreak, too—be sure to listen to his thick, soaring rock voice!

A Lump of LoveDomoto Tsuyoshi (DOMOTO)

DOMOTO – Cluster of Love / THE FIRST TAKE
A Lump of LoveDomoto Tsuyoshi (DOMOTO)

Formerly of KinKi Kids, he has been active from 2025 as the new unit “DOMOTO.” As a solo artist—under names like “ENDLICHERI☆ENDLICHERI” and “244 ENDLI-x”—he has continually pursued “his own sound,” shifting his musical style with each moniker.

Tsuyoshi’s singing voice isn’t just an idol voice; it carries sensuality, melancholy, gentleness, and a range of vocal colors.

Despite having experienced sudden hearing loss, his live vocal stability is outstanding.

His vibrato also sounds natural.

In THE FIRST TAKE videos, comments have been buzzing about how he hardly changes his posture and sings straight through to the end.

He’s brimming with effort and talent—truly top-notch in the idol world!

Goodbye ElegyIshizaki Hyuui

Huwie Ishizaki – Sayonara Elegy / THE FIRST TAKE
Goodbye ElegyIshizaki Hyuui

Singer-songwriter Huwie Ishizaki.

He’s well known for writing songs for Masaki Suda.

He’s not the type who relies on explosive vocal power, yet he captivates with vocal nuance, breath control, and the way he places words.

That’s why he has an unusually strong persuasiveness in ballads and mid-tempo numbers.

Have you watched Huwie Ishizaki on THE FIRST TAKE? I got goosebumps.

What amazed me was the trembling delicacy, the rasp that borders on a shout—it felt so soulful and hit me right in the heart.

He sings while playing guitar, yet neither his voice nor his guitar wavers at all.

I think he’s the kind of artist who changes the air the moment he steps on stage!

My StyleEndō Masaaki

Masaaki Endoh, a member of JAM Project and one of Japan’s leading anison singers, is known in the rock scene for his exceptionally strong vocal ability.

While his high notes often draw attention, the core factor supporting his singing isn’t his high range.

His real strength is the ability to maintain vocal power at any pitch.

Admittedly, when the vowel is “i,” he’s not singing with overtones, but aside from that he basically sings with overtone resonance, and combined with his high-level technique, he delivers impact in every part of a song.
